Just before I left for Disney World it was the kick-off for Nurses Week. What many of you might not know is that I worked in the city ER up until giving birth to Gavin. I loved working in the nursing field, and I enjoyed seeing how I could make a difference in my patient’s care. By celebrating nurses week, it’s an easy way to say ‘Thanks, we appreciate you!’.
Thanks to Pampers I was able to do something BIG for the nurses at the city’s hospital Labor & Delivery unit. I have a friend who works in the department, and so I reached out and asked if it would be possible to host a special breakfast to kick off the week for all their nurses! Once I had the approval I needed, I was off to the store to get as much food as possible. I knew the nurses had their own break room off to the side of the main unit, but I also knew that nurses hardly ever get just to put their feet up and take a full break. Many times the meals we ate often needed to be foods we could carry with us or be grazed upon over a period of time.
The nurses work twelve-hour shifts from 7-7, so I arrived at 5 am to set up. This time allowed me ample time to set up but also to make sure that both shifts were able to enjoy all the goodies! I had made several trips to the store and bought a lot of finger foods that were sweet treats, snacks, and even healthy options like yogurt and fruit.
It took a few trips out to my van, but once everything was in the break room it was pretty simple to set up. I also brought my Mother’s Day Gift Bundles from Pampers that I shared with you earlier.
The staff was so happy to find such a wide variety of items available, and they were so glad to be thought of and appreciated. Everything was open and easy to grab, so they were able to pop in and out quickly and easily. It was great to see so many happy people so early in the morning. I’m used to such a grumpy crew in the morning. Then again, if I were able to greet beautiful little newborns every day I guess I’d be pretty happy too!
I also made sure to stock up on easy to grab snacks and some of the drinks the hospital might not keep on hand for them. I doubled up on everything to ensure it would last a little while so all the nurses could enjoy.
Celebrating Nurses Week was such a great opportunity! Having my babies were three of the most important days in my life and these nurses have so much to do with it all. They are there to help during our labor, our delivery and with our adorable new bundles.
Have you thanked a nurse recently?
