A darling book comes out today that my kids are absolutely in love with. It is about a little spotted elephant named Elliot who lives in the big city. My kids are obsessed with little Elliot. Halli is constantly pointing to him saying “baby!” He is such a cute little elephant. “Little Elliot, Big City” by Mike Curato debuts today, August 26th, and I know y’all are going to want to add this to your children’s book library.
Amid the hustle and bustle of the big city, the big crowds and bigger buildings, Little Elliot leads a quiet life. In spite of the challenges he faces, Elliot finds many wonderful things to enjoy — like cupcakes!And when his problems seem insurmountable, Elliot discovers something even sweeter — a friend.
“Little Elliot, Big City” is the first book in a three book series about this little elephant looking for friendship and cupcakes in a city a lot bigger than himself. The illustrations in this book are absolutely stunning! There is so much detail on each page. When my kids and I read it together we stop on each page and stare at all the little details and how sweet little Elliot is. It is a super quick read, and is only 17 sentences. It is the perfect read for Halli who loves books, but sometimes has a short attention span. Even though it is such a short book it is so well written and has such a sweet ending.
This has been the perfect book to read to Hayden who is just starting Kindergarten this year. Since we just moved he is the new kid. He has no friends right now in our neighborhood and doesn’t know anyone at school yet. He has been a little apprehensive starting school not knowing anyone. Little Elliot is a great example of finding and making new friends anywhere, and how to be a good friend!
