Is PBS KIDS as popular with your kiddos like it is mine? Hayden loves all the different shows on PBS KIDS. Hayden is 4 and I am constantly trying to help find him engaging preschool learning opportunities. I really love and appreciate that PBS KIDS always offers quality programing for Hayden to watch when he earns his “screen time.” PBS KIDS has done it again with the new show Peg + Cat, premiering October 7, 2013. Hayden has seen previews for Peg + Cat for a few weeks now and he has been so excited. Hayden and I checked out the Peg + Cat website at http://pbskids.org/peg to learn more about this new show.
• PEG + CAT follows the adorable, spirited Peg and her sidekick, Cat, as they embark on adventures, solve problems and learn foundational math concepts and skills. PEG + CAT premieres Monday, October 7, 2013, on PBS KIDS with a special one-hour broadcast of two back-to-back episodes.
• Each episode features a story in which Peg and Cat encounter an unexpected challenge that requires them to use math and problem-solving skills in order to save the day. Their adventures take viewers from a farm to a distant planet, from a pirate island to a prehistoric valley, from Romeo and Juliet’s Verona to Cleopatra’s Egypt to New York’s Radio City Music Hall.
• This new series displays the value of resilience and perseverance in problem-solving while teaching math skills.
Peg is a creative, out spoken, and darling little girl. Peg and her silly pet Cat are faced with problems that they solve using many different math concepts and creativity. Math isn’t just about adding, subtracting, or basic counting. Peg + Cat also use math to compare sizes, talk about bigger or smaller, and more or less. They sort objects, talk about shapes such as spheres, cubes and pyramids, and count by 2’s, 5’s and 10’s.
Peg + Cat will be a great new show for any preschooler. Hayden laughed hysterically at all the silly jokes, and fun songs. He has been singing “Cheese and pickles, pickles and cheese! Gimme, gimme, gimme that sandwich please!” all day since watching the preview. The dialogue is entertaining, clever, and promotes cooperation. Sometimes if a problem may seem too difficult to solve Peg announces, “I am totally freeeaking out!” She then counts backwards from 5 to calm down and keeps thinking of how to solve the problem. This really resonated with Hayden. He told me “Mommy sometimes I freak out too like Peg! I am going to try counting next time and keep trying.” Thank you PBS KIDS! I swear I have told him that same thing more than a dozen times. I love that Peg + Cat helps teach kids to persevere and keep trying to solve their problems.
Peg + Cat is an excellent and entertaining new show for the whole family. I found myself giggling at some of the silly comments from the adorable characters. You will fall in love with sweet Peg with her beloved and “aaaaaammmmaaazing” friend Cat as they help teach your preschooler to use math and creativity to solve problems.
Absolutely adorable!!!
I have a 3 yo that might like this show. We will try it out.
looks adorable!
I love PBS Kids. When I was a kid we never had cable so PBS was the channel we watched all of the cartoons on.
I lol ed and played it over and over again. I look over and I see dancing in the playpen. So cute.
As a grandma of little ones and having my daughter do day care at our house, it is good to know that there are new shows coming in to replace some of the more stagnant learning shows. TV time is limited so really important to have quality learning shows instead of boring mindless ones.
This show sounds so cute! Definitely looks like something my little guy would enjoy. And it looks like a great learning program, too!
