Some how over the years on Mother’s Day weekend I’ve ended up not seeing my mom on actual Mother’s Day but we see each other the entire day before. We went downtown to the big city Farmer’s Market and we get a bunch of plants for our yards/gardens and split them up.
When we got back we went back to her shed and green house and inside she had a bunch of old egg trays filed with seedlings. Since many times when you crack an egg you get two good halves they are easy to use for seeding pods. The insides will brown and when ready just place in the ground and it will compost into the soil.
Genius, isn’t it?!? I’m so doing this next year!
I wish I had known about this a month ago lol This was my first year planting a garden and I had the hardest time separating the seedlings when it came time to transfer them. Next season I will be doing this for sure. Thank you!
That is genius, I had no clue! I’ll definitely be doing this.
What a great idea! I have never heard of this way to start your seeds. I am going to try this for sure next year. Thanks for the tip!
It is cool! I know your can do that with 1/2 a lemon peel to.
I’ll have to try this!! What a neat idea.
This is so smart! WE really want to grow more this year. We’ll try out this method!
Yes, and the egg shells are good for the plants.
So neat! it brings me back great memories 🙂 my grandmother used to do this or crush egg shells by newly fertilized soil.
What a cute idea! I love the eggshells as pots – such a great craft for the little ones.
I had been saving some eggs shells for Easter eggs next year but I would much rather use them for this since I love gardening.
Did you know that chickens peck at these? That’s what actor Jon Lovitz said, in an interview promoting the 1992 movie, “A League of Their Own”.
