About 6 weeks in came my Whirlpool Duet Front Loading Washer & Dryer. It has made my life easier. In a way I guess you could say I’ve become more efficient. I’m the only thing being more efficient these days though. This Whirlpool washer & dryer set is far more efficient then my old set. These are both energy and water efficient! From just a first glance you wouldn’t see what these bad boys are capable off so as you know I’m going to be sharing it all over the next few months. Last month I told you all about my favorite feature- precision dispense!
You know how the regular top loading washer has to fill with water, wash, drain, fill back up, spin, etc. Think of all the water that takes to keep filling up that drum. Would you believe me if I told you that the Duets can use as little as 11.5 gallons of water for the entire cycle? Well, believe it. Think of how much water you save on each load! Each day, week, or even year!
Washer Efficiency Tips
- Wash full loads, but don’t overload the machine. Washing full loads can save 3,400 gallons of water annually**.
- Use cold water for rinsing. Warm and hot water require more energy for heating.
- Set water heaters to 120°F to achieve the most energy efficient temperature. For eac°F reduction in water temperature, you can save between 3%-5% in energy costs±.
Dryer Efficiency Tips
- Dry full loads, but don’t overload the dryer. Air circulation is important to ensure proper drying.
- Dry a few loads in succession to take advantage of leftover heat in the dryer.
- Wash and dry similar fabric types together. This ensures even drying and reduces the amount of time needed in the dryer.
- Use moisture-sensing settings to avoid over drying, which wastes energy and can cause clothing to shrink.
- Clean the dryer lint filter after each load to maintain proper air circulation and heating.
- Keep the dryer’s outside exhaust clean. A clogged exhaust lengthens drying time and increases energy use.
Another great way to save is by making sure you are using the proper cycles for the loads that you are doing. Did you know the average consumer sticks to the normal cycle even though there are many others to chose from? Even when they are clearly marked!
The Duets make it easy to fine tune each load. While the loads are set when you go into each cycle. you can switch them up to fit your needs while using the different option buttons on the screen. For cycles you aren’t sure about like linens, comforters, etc can be found in the specailty cycle area and if you find that you are often doing the same cycle but changing it to fit your needs every time you can even make your own cycle! It even lets you name it so you can distinguish them if you make multiple ones.
As you can see there are so many benefits of owning the Whirlpool Duets. While I’m still learning so much about this set you know that I’m just going to continue to find new things they can do and new ways they can save me both time and money!
