Whirlpool Duet Front Loading Washer & Dryer – 6 Months Later #WhirlpoolMoms

I can’t believe I’ve had my amazing Whirlpool Duet Front Loading Washer & Dryer  for six months now. I was so excited that i was going to get this beautiful set along with the drawers in my choice of silver or white. I had a set of white ones from a different company in my laundry room and I was less then impressed and eager to get them out.

I had decided I wanted the set in silver. All the other major appliances in my home are stainless so I thought it would be more fitting. We have second floor laundry so these are more in our home then your typical set thrown in the basement. I need more from them then your typical set.

The room has no windows in it so I apologize about the yellow coloring. The room was a tight fit as it’s a long room instead of a wide room. There is a sorting area behind where I am standing. When they first were installed everything was smooth. Even though these beauties had more options then the regular sets I didn’t feel overwhelmed or that I had to read the manual from front to back in order to use them. For the first month or so I did leave it on top for quick and easy reference in case I needed it.

So, six months later what do I think?

The drawers underneath.
My old set we built a custom shelf for them to sit on. We refused to spend the extra money on them and installed the cabinet above them as a trade off. I use the drawers all.the.time. I have so much more useful storage now. I like to stock up on good sales and while that helps with the cabinet I can’t reach it easily even with the help of a stool. I dread needing stuff in the cabinet and I love having the drawers to store all my regularly used products and cleaners. My old set the tops were scratched horribly after only a couple years because instead I was sliding stuff on and off them. The room looks cleaner and more organized as a result. The drawers are expensive, but they are also a one time expense that you will be glad you made later down the road.

Multiple Cycles Programmed In
I have so much laundry. I do multiple loads on a daily basis and often I’m running behind time wise. The last thing I want o do is stand in front of my machine and waste five minutes figuring out what setting I want it on. The Whirlpool Duet Front Loading Washer & Dryer  even allows me to make custom settings that I can quickly jump to if they don’t have what I want already programmed. Of course I can also use the regular settings and then jump over to the computer screen and make a quick change to what they recommend.

Reminder To Clean
The one thing I really disliked about my old set was how gross they had gotten. I was really uninformed about how cleaning they would need. I also didn’t know you needed a tablet and ran the cleaning cycle occasionally with nothing but a little bleach. The reminder makes sure my washer is always at it’s prime and it’s also when I stop and neaten up the whole room and wipe everything down.

Precision Dispense
I don’t know how I could ever go back to not having this feature. I made a whole post around the precision dispense that’s how much I like it! I walk through how it works on the video too! This feature has saved me so much money and time already, I absolutely love it! Click here to read a more about this feature.

Enhanced Touch Up
This has to be my second favorite feature overall as well. They have the allergen feature to wash things that cleans them in the hottest setting. I don’t always want everything washed though, or they can’t be washed. Gavin has all these little Mario stuffed animals and he drags them everywhere. I love this because I can toss them in to get steamed and heated and I know that they are killing the germs on them better then the basic dryer setting. I also do our pillows on this feature every weekend and they come out clean, fluffy, and dust mite free!

Repairs
My washer has already needed a repair. The repair wasn’t able to be fixed quickly either as it turned out the part had not only a back order but a national back order. This scares me a little because my repair was a result of a leak coming right out my front door of the washer. It wasn’t a big leak but enough to have to change my socks every time I used it. My fear was a big leak with my set being located on the second floor this could have been bad. If I had to wait weeks for the repair and been told I couldn’t use it in the meantime that would have been a major inconvenience.

Bulk Setting
I love that the drums to both the washer and dryer are big enough to fit my comforters and mattress padding. However, I get frustrated with the hours it can sometimes take trying to get them completely dry. The bulky setting is supposed to prevent this by stopping and allowing you to shift what is in it but I find I’m doing is many times over and I’m not always standing right there to pull it out and adjust it right away and the back up time wise begins.

Overall, I am super happy with this set. I know I have definitely saved money both in detergent and my energy bill. It cleans well and takes care of all my needs and more. It’s attractive and functional and will hopefully last me many years to come!

With a set that is probably older than God…I am envious.

It’s gonna be getting even more of a work out soon!

  2. That is a very large set. I have a relatively new dryer but a 10+ year old washer I have been itching to replace. I don’t have a room but a closet with a tall ceiling so I am thinking a stackable set would work best.

I have read a few different mom blogs on these. I just wanted to tell you that I think this is very detailed and you did a great job on the review! I wish I had some of these for myself. I’ve also heard that white vinegar can clean them and if used as fabric softener can prevent some of the residue. I can’t try it out but may be worth a try.
