Wordless Wednesday Airport Security

We flew out of Logan in Boston with Jet Blue. Suddenly right in front of us when the plane landed there were all these people in uniform, state police, and dogs at the gate. They spent about 20 mins on the plane with the other passengers and then another 30 minutes afterwards. Jet Blue told us they had no explanation as the TSA doesn’t need to explain themselves to them or us. They said it could have been just a random search as they are allowed to do that as well. After they were done we had to wait while they did paperwork for it all.

Needless to say we were relieved when the engine had an issue and they sent us to a new gate after all that to catch a different plane. Fun when you have your kids in tow! It was also the same day our house burnt down a few years ago. The last thing I wanted to do was board a plane. My superstitions were working on overload that day.

(Sorry for the bad pic, it was taken with my ipod touch from far off)

Sorry you had to go through that on top of your house burning down! When I lived in St. Louis, we would fly to Florida quite often. One time our full Southwest plane started to taxi out for take off. After taxi-ing for what seemed like an extra ordinary amount of time I looked out the window. We looked like we were a lot farther away than normal, but nothing was said to us, so I just kept looking at my magazine. After about another 10 minutes and no announcement from the crew, I looked out the window again. That is when I saw about 4 big black SUVs headed towards us. I looked out the other side of the plane and saw nothing. Just a field and trees. I thought oh no. I looke dout my window again and saw police cars, fire trucks and ambulances headed towards us. That is when the flight crew came on and told us that someone had found the words, “There is a bomb on this plane” written in the Southwest magazine. No one screamed, no one freaked out, no one did anything, except for what we were asked to do, sit still and stay clam. I think it was too early in the moning for anyone to react. A person came on dressed in a full silver hazmat suit complete with head covering! We were told that the magazine had been there for at least 3 weeks because they are onlt changed out periodically. They didn’t know how long the writing could’ve been there, but they had to take every precaution possible. We were asked to grab out item and deboard the plane one by one. As we left the plane, there was a bus we would board to go to an empty terminal. The walk from the plane to the bus was lined with agents and we were required to have out items sniffed by a bomb sniffing dog in our presence. When we got to the empty terminal, they turned on the tv, I guess to keep us entertained, and we could see the news covering the story about our flight! I still can’t believe how calm everyone was. I think we were all greatful that the right thing was done, even if nothing was found. A few weeks later a letter came from Southwest, thanking us for our understanding and it included a free round trip tiicket for each pssenger.
