As you know I’m cookie challenged. If you follow me on Facebook you have been reading about my baking experiences this holiday season. Just this past weekend I dropped a 5 pound bag of flour in the middle of my floor! I have tried sugar cookie cut outs FIVE times and I get the most distorted looking things. My snowflakes look like flowers and my Christmas trees like sun bursts. It’s been horrible! Of course I feel like I need to live up to my Wilton Mom Ambassador title and deliver you expert pieces of work. Wrong. I couldn’t do it. I faced the defeat of cookies. Then I started digging around the boxes of goodies they sent and remembered the cookie press. I opened it up and got nervous. I washed it and went on www.wilton.com they are great with tutorial videos, ideas, and recipes. When I saw this picture I was sold:
I wanted needed to make those green Christmas trees! They looked so pretty but sounded so easy. I didn’t want to make the spritz dough so I thought I’d give it a try with some refrigerated sugar cookie dough I bought. So I remembered seeing a blog post on how you could color the cookie dough not too long ago. I signed up for updates on the Piece Of Cake Blog and love seeing all their new ideas. They said all I’d need are the Icing Colors. I had them already since I use them to dye frosting so I grabbed the KELLY GREEN coloring and took out my dough.
My dough was chilled and impossible to mix so I left it out while making a different kind of cookie. If I was thinking I would have done this in my Kitchenaid mixer. I wasn’t. The spatula wasn’t working and I didn’t have any gloves. SO I just stuck my hand in and started blending. It worked perfectly. Yes, parts of my hand (and nails) are still green. Beware. Funny side story- when I went to Wilton in June I was sitting with Mommy Goggles and we needed to use the blue. I couldn’t for the life of me peel off the cover under the lid so I finally used my teeth. Not a good idea. Next thing I knew Tanya was laughing hysterically and I was learning my teeth were stained blue. Lesson learned.
Next I needed to prepare the Wilton Comfort Grip™ Cookie Press. I washed it by hand and dried it off. I found the tree disk and placed it in.
Pull the pusher back so you can fill the chamber. See how nice and green my batter got!
Here is the disk I picked. See how it states ‘THIS SIDE OUT’ on the side. Just make sure it does just that.
Here is a great tutorial that I watched before using it. I highly recommend you do the same. I completely missed the spinning of the clicky piece. This video made it so easy!
See just like the video! First one was a bit messy and then the rest came out fine! What I really loved was these also stayed put. When I went to put the pan in the oven they didn’t shift causing my spacing to change.
Then I grabbed some Sparkle Gel Frostings and some Christmas Sprinkles. Don’t they look snazzy.
This Comfort Grip™ Cookie Press is awesome! I love it. I can’t believe I haven’t used one until now. I saw these at Walmart just the other day for only $9!! I am so happy I can finally have some Christmas decorating fun with cookies without the headache. I think with the one thing of batter I bought I made at least 60 cookies and I also used the same dough for another cookie recipe I’m showing in another post. The cookie press really gives you the most cookie for the least batter too! The kids and I will be making more of these and decorating them and bringing them to Christmas.
I suck at cookies too! LOL I’m really hoping that the set I won from you is going to help me out with this 🙂
Yes! You’ll have the same Cookie Press! I have all that you got but I chose different pans. So easy! Just watch that video!
I totally have to get one of these. Gonna have to check out Wilton’s website. Thanks for the blog!
Those look so good! I actually got a cookie press years ago and never used it because I thought it only made old-fashioned cookies. I’m definitely going to try these!
Wow, I so wish my food blog could be a mom ambassador for them too! I do a
whole lot of baking, decorating even some of it is sugar free delights which
taste great too! barb
You just reminded me that I need to make spritz cookies. Guess that’s what me and the kids will be doing 🙂
I love the cookie press for my fancy holiday cookies… I also make gingerbread houses and rolled sugar cookies cut with a cookie cutter…. Little trick I learned years ago… roll the dough out on your cookie sheet, use the cutter and remove the excess dough instead of cutting out the cookies and trying to transfer them.. Your cookies will be perfect everytime….
Wow I love those! Even I could probably do those!! 🙂
I have a cookie press (not this brand, but a very similar one) & I love it!!! Cookies look great too, BTW.
They look good and makes it look so easy! This would be great for us who are cookie challenged!! Thanks.
That looks really cool and easy to use. Thanks for the review.
I LOVE Wilton and I really need to buy a cookie press.. would make my cookie making experiences so much easier LOL.. I love that you can dye the cookie dough, I don’t know why I never though of it!
These look delcious. I know that dye is powerful, my SIL helps me bake sometimes and I was surprised with how much a little drop goes a long way.
I love Spritz cookies and I didn’t know you could substitute prepared cookie dough! Now if I only had the Wilton Comfort Grip Cookie Press, I’d be set.:)
The cookies look GREAT! I love WILTON gadgets too. I have the same cookie press stored in the back of my cabinet – thanks for the reminder. I wish I had pulled it out this Christmas. Silly me. I never thought about using refrigerated dough and I really enjoyed reading this review. Thanks for the link to the tutorial.
Thank you,
Tracey
