2013 has been a big year for me. It’s been a lot about change. Changing the way I feel, changing the way I look, and changing my every day lifestyle is. This has been a trickling effect for me and I have been changing many things we normally do and eat for better options. While exercise is an obvious way to keep your family healthy there is so much more to the picture. Some other things you should consider when wanting to stay healthy:
1. Eat a Balanced Diet – I don’t believe in cutting entire food groups out. We still eat carbs and I still buy sweets. My boys are growing and shouldn’t be dieting. While I’m trying to lose weight I am not dieting I’m aiming for smaller portions and better choices.
2. Get a Yearly Exam – This goes for everyone. Physicals aren’t just for kids! As adults it’s important that we keep track of blood work and required testing at certain age specific markers.
3. Visit Specialist Doctors too! Getting your teeth, eyes, skin are all important too! You should visit your dentist and get an eye exam every year! If you have skin issues, like my psoriasis,
4. Get Fresh Air – This is so important. Days when I get don’t get outdoors are days that I feel depressed and less energized. Gardening, playing ball, or even reading a book in a hammock. You’ll find the moment will re-energize you.
5. Turn off the Electronics! The times when everything is turned off is when our family is best connecting. Communication is really important to me and having emotional support is just as important as physical.
These are just a few things we’re in the process of doing around here. I know our schedules are busy and live gets crazy but we really need to make them priorities. Since I’ve started losing weight and eating better I’ve been feeling so much better and ache so much less. Being responsible with your health will save you time in the long run and likely will extend your time here too!
