My husband LOVES a good cheese danish, especially when it’s warm. Problem is the ones at the grocery store are so expensive. When I found this recipe I knew I had to try it. For the price of one at the grocery store I can make two of these. It was super simple to make and it’s now become a favorite of ours.
I found it on my all time favorite food blog Lauren’s Latest. If you haven’t checked out her blog you should.
From the topping to the filling this danish will delight everyone!
Easy Cheese Danish
Ingredients
- 1 tube seamless crescent dough
- 1 8- oz. package cream cheese softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 4 tablespoons heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- Spread crescent over a parchment lined cookie sheet.
- Combine cream cheese, flour, sugar, and vanilla in bowl. Mix with spoon.
- Spread down center of dough.
- Cut into 1/2 inch to 1 inch strips at an angel down both sides.
- Braid the pieces over the cheese mixture rotating one side then the other.
- Bake for 20-30 minutes, until golden.
- Let cool. Move to serving dish.
- Mix powdered sugar, cream, and vanilla in bowl.
- Pour over danish.
- Serve.
Take your crescent roll and spread out on a parchment lined cookie sheet. If you only have regular crescents on hand you can still use it just make sure all the seems are tight and together. You don’t want the filling bursting through.
Next, in a small bowl combine cream cheese. flour, sugar, and vanilla. If your cream cheese is soft then you can easily do this with a spoon and not have to pull out your mixer.
Spread down the middle of the crescent dough. Slice one inch lines at a diagonal. Don’t make them too thin It makes them hard to braid.
Starting at the top just cross over one side and then the other and repeat. I meant to take a photo sooner but it’s so easy I realized I had done the whole thing. When you reach the end make sure to press and seal it.
Bake at 375 for 20-30 minutes. It will look all yummy and golden like this when you remove it. Let cool.
In a small bowl combine powdered sugar, cream, and vanilla and pour over the danish. Devour.
Serious goodness.
goodness gracious! i have to try this!!
I can’t wait to try this, it looks so easy!
I cannot wait to try this! How easy! One of my favorite things, but I never buy it because of the cost! You are awesome, keep it up!
That would defeat the purpose of it being easy.
I don’t understand why you always rate my recipes poorly and leave negative comments on them π It’s okay if you don’t like any of Pillsbury rolls but I do and so do many of my readers.
I guess because I make bread from scratch regularly-daily-that is is no big deal to make a sweet roll dough to me. I have lost the taste for canned dough over the 27+ years of making my own. For me, making sweet roll dough is just 15 minutes of mixing, and then after rising, just a quick roll with the rolling pin.
I personally wouldn’t rate a recipe without trying it first but definitely wouldn’t give it 3 stars without having a taste. It reminds me of the people who leave reviews on Amazon but admit to never having tried the product yet.
And for the record, I LOVE the taste of crescent rolls! Yum! I can imagine just how good it would be with cream cheese.
I’m sorry to have offended all of you who love prepackaged doughs. You may delete me comment, Jennifer.
Oh, it isn’t offensive that you don’t like prepackage dough. It is only offensive if you rate a recipe low or put it down without having tried it first. It is like rating a recipe low because it contains onions and you don’ t like onions. It isn’t really fair to the recipe/blogger.
Instead, simply say that the recipe sounds good but you would take it a step further and make it it with your own homemade dough. Then the comment is constructive and offers another alternative for the people who prefer that too. And then just don’t rate the recipe until you’ve made it. π
Why not just
a.) say nothing.
or
b.) Or politely say something nice but still authentic (i.e. ‘sounds great. I might make a few tweaks and try it soon!”).
“With a true pastry dough” has a connotation of it being less than….and that’s not cool to do in someone’s house (i.e. blog). I wouldn’t be a guest at your place and be anything other than gracious.
*And Jennifer doesn’t need your permission to delete your comment.
That looks good! I’ve never eaten a cheese danish but I’ve always wanted to try one. I think I have most of these ingredients, I may just try this and see how it goes.
Really never? They are amazing! My husband would love this I’m sure as if he sees a good looking cream cheese danish he just can’t resist.
Seriously? Oh even if for some crazy reason you don’t like mine you must try another kind. Raspberry ones are my favorite!
I will be trying this one, It looks super easy and so good!
YUM! I love Pillsbury crescent rolls! They make life easier and this looks yummy! π
I think this looks great! My husband and daughter love cheese danish. My daughter also likes raspberries so I’m thinking maybe some of those in the middle too. Great idea…especially when you don’t make your own dough. π
Raspberry is my favorite too!
I cannot wait to try this! My dad loved cheese danish and would buy it as a special treat for us. Thanks for the recipe. With three boys something quick and easy is right up my alley…especially when I don’t have the time or the desire to make my own dough! π
Its a treat here too- but we’ve had it a lot more since I found this recipe!
Looks great. And I love the pillsbury dough. It doesmajel it easy for those of us who don’t have the time to make doughs and breads from scratch on a daily basis.
Jennifer, that looks amazing! My husband LOVES danish’s but you are right, they are SO expensive and homemade is (a bit) healthier. π I’ll have to try this sometime! I’m thinking that you can probably alter the recipe and add different filling and the like.
And while I’ll probably make my own dough, this looks SO yummy! (I know, defeats the purpose of being easy, but I have a machine that will do it for me so I just have to roll it out!) Thank you so much for sharing. π
Now for what I came here to say before I got distracted—
Between this recipe and Cat’s monkey bread, I can probably blow my scale up by the New Year!
Woo hoo!! Can’t wait.
I {heart} you
I too have never tried a cheese danish. . .this is gonna sound silly but I always thought there was cheese in it not cream cheese. I thought ‘why would you want to eat something like that with regular cheese in it’ =)
that looks very tasty!! Thanks for sharing! I hope mine comes out looking half as good as yours!
That looks like one big loaf of Italian bread and if I put that in front of my husband he’d probably say, “Where’s yours”? lol Looks pretty simple to make I’m definitely going to have to try it. Thanks for sharing. You’re such a sweetie!
I absolutely positively adore cheese danish, but I loath paying so much for them. Jennifer you have made my day! I cannot wait to give this a shot this weekend! I love seamless crescent dough. I have used it to make so many treats, but a cheese danish will be a first. I love that this will be relatively quick and easy. π Thanks!
That looks so yummy! I’m going to have to try it sometime. I don’t like the store bought danishes, but I think I’d really like these, anything with cream cheese is a winner in my book π
Ya know I poked around on here to find something to “Leave a relevant comment on any non-giveaway post (reviews are ok)” And low and behold I found a cheese Danish recipe that I really think I could possibly make. Woot Woot! I will be trying this as soon as I get some crescent roll dough. Your blog is great by the way!
My first response to the title and main photo was, “Shut the Front Door!” (and I never say that). π I LOVE cheese danish and can’t wait to try this one. Pinning it right now!
That braiding technique is really lovely. It really takes this to the next level. Presentation is everything when working with pre-made products. You’ve really got to make it your own. I might try this with a line of jam running down the middle.
Jennifer, I made this tonight, and my kids & parents all loved it! When I made the frosting though, the vanilla made it more brown than yours looked, and had a very strong vanilla taste, and I was wondering if I messed up the directions. I put 1teaspoon in the filling mix, and 1 tablespoon in the frosting. Did I get that mixed up? I couldn’t find where it said specifically which amount went with which part, so I just put it in as listed and hoped I was right! This was fantastic though and I will definitely be making it again… and again… and again! And by the way, it was fantastic with the crescent rolls! I wouldn’t use any other kind! Thank you!
Hmmm I never thought about it but I went and looked at what I used and realize I was using Wilton’s clear vanilla extract since I have so much of it. I wonder if that’s where the change came in but I’ve made this multiple times already and I don’t think I’ve used it every time.
ive actually been looking for a recipe on how to make my own i buy this often at the grocery store as a matter of fact i bought one yesterday :)…..it looks yummy ill have to attempt to make it thanks!
I made it for the first time a week ago. So good they decided to add it as the 8th deadly sin!
I just made it for a Superbowl sweet, but somehow I sprinkled a bunch of white chocolate chips in it.
It’s going to be out of this world. Thanks for the recipe.
True pastry dough?…. I bet royallegacy has no idea how to make it
The recipe is great! I will try it this weekend! I better spend time with my kids then dancing around rising dough half a day
Oooh, yum! Cheese danish is my favorite! My MIL is coming for the weekend and I’m going to make this for breakfast tomorrow! Thanks to the pinner who pinned this, I wouldn’t have seen it otherwise.
Just wanted to thank you for this woderful recipe! My husband and I are huge fans of danish and we never thought we’d try one thats better than Costco’s. I make this at least once a week and its hubbys absolute favorite! Its even better with a little bit of raspberry jam on top but you have to bake it on a lower temp so it cooks thru π
Yay! So glad you like it π
This recipie looks delicious but I shy away from anything with heavy cream since I don’t keep it on hand. But I read the recipie and realized the cream was for the icing & I make a similar icing with milk and have used skim to whole milk depending upon what was available and it works great, you just adjust the amount of milk per the consistancy you desire! Just thought I’d share π
Btw, I think this looks amazing and will trying for sure!!!
Do we have to use seamless dough? I might need to try this recipe
Just made this tonight and it turned out amazing! My boyfriend even had to get seconds. π it tasted like a perfect Danish to me and I’m far from being a ‘seasoned’ cook.
Where did you find seamless cresent rolls? i looked and could not find any.
I found mine at my local grocery store with all the other crescent products. If you but the other ones just roll it out π
Holy yum!
I just might make these for Sunday! That is, if I can dig out of this Snowmageddon we got in the Midwest. Thanks for the easy peasy recipe, Jennifer!
This looks yummy, but I think my kids would like it better with some fruit in it, can I add some raspberry’s or even cherry pie filling on top of the cream cheese before braiding?
Now that really looks YUMMY! I totally love love love Cream Cheese Danish & so does hubby. Doesn’t look all that hard, but hey I’ll bring the coffee let me know when it’s ready we’ll coffee clutch and pig out! π Thanks for sharing.
that looks really good you have skills it looks similar to a pastry
this looks similar to a strudel
Looks wonderful, just wondering if this can be made ahead? Put in frig, & bake the next morning?
Where do you find seamless crescent dough?
Jennifer, thanks for sharing this recipe. The best cheese Danish I have tried. Made it for breakfast this morning and my husband ate half of it up. Top notch!!!!!
This is a great and incredibly easy recipe. My entire family devoured it, and my children asked me if I’d make it once a week. π Thanks for making a homemade danish so accessible for busy moms with little time to spend in the kitchen.
Just came out of my oven. Cant wait to glaze and dig in
