Make time to play. Not just today but everyday. Put down those computers, phone, and tablets and take a nice long look at your children. They are small- for now but they won’t always be. We have so much going on with our lives it is easy to get caught up and realize that the most important and more irreplaceable things are right there in front of you. Valuable moments with our children. Moments to play, moments to dance, moments to create memories.

When Gymboree shared this video with me I almost cried because I know it’s true. My children are always telling me all the ways and all the reasons they need to grow up. As a mom I want to show them to know why they need to enjoy their childhood. My oldest is going to turn 13 this fall and he’s always telling me how soon he’ll be driving and heading off to college but when his 1 year old brother is around all that old talk goes out the door and he is willing to be the fun playful child he still is.

I hope my boys stay young at heart for years to come. I hope they always find the fun in the simplest things. Crawling into boxes, digging in the dirt, building forts and playing tag. I want them to reflect back on their childhood one day and remember the small things as much as they do the big. To remember the laughter, the hugs, and all the hiding places. The cupcakes, the train rides, and all in between.

I want them to remember that mom never let them fall asleep without an official tuck in and a kiss. I want them to remember playing tag and hide ‘n seek until it got dark. Fires on cool summer nights and making s’mores. I want them to remember so many of the things that making being a child fun.

So let’s hold onto Childhood at least for today. Thanks Gymboree for this reminder as it is so easy to get caught up and forget what’s most important.

Very touching. They grow up way too fast and you just want to keep them as your babies!

they grow up so fast, I tell myself all the time to put the computer away to spend time with the kids

This is something at which I’ve got to get better. I’m constantly exhausted due to having a special needs baby and a 3.5 year old with ADHD, so playing is often the last thing I want to do.

I agree with this 100%! I try not to get on my computer or anything until my daughter goes to bed. Time is flying by and she is growing up way to fast.

My wife and I try to spend as much time with our daughter as we can. I love to hear hear laugh and see how happy she is when I get down and play with her. I’m sure when we have our second child it will be a lot harder but something we will have to work on.

  6. Fun post! Your boys are all so sweet!

This is a great reminder for parents who are too busy to take time to share those precious moments with their children and just have some fun. Too many parents get caught up with life, and before you know it the kids are all grown up and leaving the nest

I have 5 kids and always try to make time to play. Sometimes when I am on the computer I get wrapped up in what I am doing. Then they will ask me to play a game so I finish what I am doing and spend the next hour playing games with the kids. They grow up so fast I cherish these childhood days.

I treasure every moment I get to spend with my little guy and my daughter. Time passes so quickly – it seems like yesterday I was holding each of them in my arms.

  12. I just love cherishing these moments. I spent well over an hour at the park with her yesterday – so much fun. Great pictures of the kiddos 🙂
