Create an Allergy-Friendly Home!

I wrote this post while participating in a blog tour conducted by Clever Girls Collective on behalf of Claritin®;. I have been compensated for my time commitment to the program.

Do allergies effect your family? They make mine miserable and it seems that this year has been harder then ever. The sneezing and the red itchy eyes are the worst for my husband and the runny nose just gets to my kids. While we love being outside it can really be unbearable at times for them. So when it comes to the inside I do my best to make it as breathable as possible so they can relax and enjoy whatever it is they want to be doing.

One thing I did last year that seemed to really help was put allergy covers on all pillows and covered all the mattresses as well. Once a week I take each pillow (without cover and pillowcase) and place it in the dryer for 20 minutes. This kills anything in them and helps a lot my husband says. It’s also great to do for all those well loved stuffed animals that can’t be washed but you just cringe knowing all the places they have been dropped and dragged.

I also recommend using a vacuum with a HEPA filtration system. These will common dust mites, pet allergens, and pollen from the air. It helps kill all common dust mites, pet allergens, and pollen from the air. This will be a big help at keeping your house clean and your family from being miserable.

Another thing that we invested in was a air purifier. We keep it in our bedroom on my husbands side and it seems to help him. Many units that you purchase can be multi-functioning and can serve as other things like a fan which can help too. I love the look of the tower versions and it definitely helps that they use up very little space.

These are just some of the steps I’ve taken to try and ease my families irritation from allergies. If you have any tips that have helped and worked for your family I’d love for you to share them in a comment!

My family and I are definitely affected by seasonal allergies in all different ways, but there are the normal runny eyes, itchy nose, sneezing, etc etc. These are all some great tips, some of which we already do, and some of which I would have never thought of!

Thank you on behalf of my family and I 🙂

Thanks for the tips! I hadn’t thought about the allergy covers for the bedding, I better get on it.

  3. I would have never thought of the allergy covers either. I never had allergies until I had my daughter 2 years ago and now my nose runs constantly in the summer. Thanks for all these great tips!
