Why To NEVER Host With Go Daddy!!!

Yesterday I was hacked. Someone got in and hacked my site. They encrypted every php file in my hosting account and my database had encrypted files inserted into them. When I called them they told me- NOT their problem NOT their responsibility. What?!?! Are you serious?!?! I PAY for hosting from you. How can you tell me that? No trying to help, no suggestions on how to fix it! Nothing! The girl made me sit on hold so she could pull it up on nine thousand browsers and the ONLY thing she could tell me was ‘The warning is only showing in Google Chrome’. If I were interested in having a daily scan and results and emailed me for the future it would only cost me $xxx amount a month.

Um, Really? So you can tell me everyday if a hacker came and messed up and took over my site. Google chrome can at least tell me WHO did it. I pay you for secure hosting, or at least I thought I did. My free account from blogger was more secure than this. Mom Spotted has only been live for a month and already my site has been attacked. It wasn’t even put into one spot it was everywhere!!! And worst, you didn’t even try to help! You were rude and made me feel  it was my fault and I was on my own. I was so upset.

I had so many bloggers tell me NOT to go with Go Daddy and I really should have listened. I could have avoided all of this.

Wanna know who helped me? Another blogger! Jessica Benton from iDesign was great with the very recent design and move of this site! Not only did she put together and design Mom Spotted- but she brought J. Leigh Designz here. I got to keep all my numbers, readers, posts, reviews, family photos, and the ever so important and big question of the Google Followers {GFC}! She brought everyone of you here. So when this went down it was natural to turn to her. She was on a plane coming home from a Blog Event and when she landed and turned her phone on and heard my panicked call she called me immediately and told me what I needed to start doing. She wasn’t even off the plane yet.

She spent most of the afternoon helping me and eventually introduced me to Kat Robertson. Kat is the one who is going through and cleaning out all my files. Then she is going to get my hosting off of Go Daddy and onto Hostgator.

Overall what happened (I don’t know WHY Go Daddy couldn’t tell me this) was that this site was able to hack into my site and knock out the admin side. Because that site was a virus it made it look like a virus to you because your site was reading their url. Thankfully Google Chrome told us the website name so we could locate and verify it on my site easily. So, hopefully you can now see my site okay.

So I know you’ve been waiting for a post on my feeling about moving from blogger to wordpress. I’ve had many people email me and I promise I will share soon. It is a learning process still and I’m a LOT slower at it then in blogger so it’s taking longer. However I wanted you to know if you’re thinking about it and considering who you host with DON’T go with Go Daddy. In fact, I recommend you just contact Jess for a new look and Kat for hosting help. They’ll take care of all of it for you, like they do for me. Their prices were definitely affordable! Plus, I can head off to my 10 hour day at work and not STRESS like I did yesterday!

  1. This is horrible! When my step-dad was trying to start up a business he used Go Daddy and I just hated everything about their site layout and admin section. I am very picky about hosts and usually shop around and ask tons of questions. So glad Jess and Kat were both able to help you get it all fixed.

  3. Jennifer how awful The same thing happend to me on Focus on Motherhood. I was hacked and had no one to ask that was before I was a member of MOmdot or really a member. What a mess! I’m glad you got it all figured out. Definitely post your thoughts on WP/Blogger when you have time 🙂

I hate Go Daddy. I was blacklisted because some 3rd party company is blacklisting Go Daddy clients because they don’t follow standard spam protocol. Then when I tried to switch service they cut off my service before my complete transfer was completed.

Yay! Is right! I am SO glad things are better. I was getting incredibly cranky lol

I encountered almost the same thing as you. I’m SO glad I’m no longer with GoDaddy. They were so unhelpful in everything – and I was hacked twice. I could never recommend them to anyone.

  8. What is wrong with customer service these days? How rude of them! What were you paying for then?! I’m still mad at Dish Network for their rudeness, so I’ll start cursing Go Daddy for you as well 🙂

I’m glad you are getting it all back up and running!

  9. Mimi says

Thank you for this warning. Go Daddy certainly isn’t winning anyone over with this review. They need to start paying attention to who they mess with! I appreciate you information!

One thing I’ve heard about them…and actually seen with my previous employer…

Go Daddy will try and bill you when it’s time for renewal. And if the account or card you had on file is closed or expired then they’ll just send you off to collections. Most people I spoke with didn’t know about it until it showed up negative on their credit report.

So make extra, extra sure that you’ve canceled your account. Get it in writing if you can somehow. And be sure you are not set up for recurring billing.

  11. I just paid for my Domains with another company, but was strongly considering Go Daddy for a while. So glad I didn’t go with them!

I heard they weren’t bad for domains, it was hosting they are awful at.
