Sound like fun?

So, for this week’s question:
Q: What do you think about Cinderella licenses for Drunk Drivers that were found guilty and lost their license?
A:I’m asking about this because a 20 year old co-worker of mine just got a DUI. Failed a Breathalyzer and pleaded guilty. He’s in the process of court but has already been stripped of his license and is already applying for a Cinderella license and is confident he’ll get it.
The thing is WHY should he be granted his license back. With a Cinderella License you get to use your license for a 12 hour period each day. Something like 7a-7p so that you can still work etc.
But seriously?
If you were out drunk on the roads why should you not be inconvenienced at all? Why should you just get your license back because you need to get to work and school?
Not to mention he was under the legal drinking age when this happened and 3 weeks prior to this he totaled his car by driving it into a tree drunk. Luckily he was the only one hurt. He called his parents and no one called the police so he escaped any real consequences for his actions. Clearly, to get arrested for a DUI three weeks later meant NOTHING to him.To make matters worse he’s the boss’s son. We were all told to “go easy” on him when he returned to work. We were told he’s had a rough week and that they’d appreciate it if we didn’t discuss the topic because he was sensitive to it.
When he walked in he was like “aaahhhh sh*t, I got busted”. Um, not keeping my mouth shut. I reamed into him like his parents should have. Telling him he should feel lucky he didn’t kill someone. That he should have learned his lesson just a few weeks prior and that it was great we all had to pick up the slack since he no longer had a ride to work.He walked out. His Mother my boss then laid into me on how inappropriate I as. Um…I was not the one who asked me to not say anything. That is not in my job description. Not to mention I HATE drunk drivers. I went through a windshield in a drunk driving accident as a child and when Johnny was 5 months old he landed in the hospital because a drunk driver rear ended my husband so bad that when he drove off he took my hubby’s bumper with him.
I will never “go easy” on a drunk driver. I will never think that they had a “tough break”. I also don’t believe in a Cinderella License. People are killed and left deformed or handicapped for life because of drunk drivers and we’re supposed to feel sorry for them when they lose their license. They weren’t worried about it then, why should we worry about it now!
