We showed up at the office and it was packed. However, it wasn’t filled with sick kids. It was just the opposite, these kids were healthy. There was a walk-in, first come first serve H1N1 clinic with a handful of vaccines available. People were lining up with their kids left and right. When the lady came out with her clipboard and stated the list would start it was insane. I watched as mothers with babies in their arms fought their way to the front. Screamed about being their hours before it started and being put to the back of the line. It was crazy. All this while my poor baby rocked back and forth sick as can be.
His name was called and we were seen by the Dr. He has the swine flu.
As we took our prescriptions and headed towards our car we realized that not only inside the office was crazy but outside as well. Cars had backed in other cars and were double parked on the main road. There were mothers yelling about being told they were out of the vaccine already and would have to come back when they had more available.
We proceeded to my Jeep. When we reached it there was a woman in a van blocking my car and two others. The moms were all yelling because the woman refused to move allowing us to leave. I piled my kids in the car attempted to see if I could squeeze through and couldn’t. I got out. One of the other mom’s was on her cell phone with the office begging them to get the cars moved. Someone from the office came out asked the woman to move, she refused. The woman just walked back in the office. What?!? At this point Johnny is crying and throwing up out the side of my Jeep. I’m livid. Who does this woman think she is. The other moms are screaming at her and she just rolled up her windows and proceeded to wait in her car. I walk up and state if she doesn’t move her vehicle I’m calling the police (who should have already been on here, imo) she gives me the middle finger. I dial 911. She gets out of the car as I read of her plate number.
She comes at me screaming that she’s not moving until her sister comes back with her niece and I’m a blah, blah, blah. The other moms thank me.
The police arrive.
Me and 2 of the moms are now asked to wait. The woman state we threatened to harm her. What?!?! WE called the police why would WE harm her. OMG!
Johnny is balling. I just want to bring my sick child home. But we can’t.
All 3 of us moms explain are story but we are not allowed to leave. The office lady states that we were yelling at her and she was frightened to get out of her car. WHAT? This lady wasn’t even around. Finally the cop tells us with 5 to 1 witnesses (2 other people blocked in got involved) that they can’t hold us and the woman decided not to press charges on us. Are you kidding me! How do you press charges on something that never happened? Especially with 5 people stating the exact opposite story. We just wanted to get our sick kids home.
We are allowed to leave because now a real fight has started inside they need to deal with.
R.i.d.i.c.u.l.o.u.s!
It’s the media. It has turned people crazy. Remember when AIDS came out?
The cops told us that by us telling the woman that she needed to move because our children had the flu and we needed to get them home that it was equal to waiving around a needle and stating we had AIDS. WTF??? When do you put that analogy to a child! He was sick, we were at the damn Dr., and we were trying to leave. My son was crying and puking out the side of the car and a 3 year old boy was screaming in his mothers arms! Of course we told the woman our kids were sick and just wanted to leave!
I have debated on contacting the Dr.’s office on how embarrassing the situation was. I was/am mortified. We did nothing but request to leave. We even asked for their help in getting her to leave. We did nothing but repeatedly ask to leave. We had seriously sick children, and were not being allowed to leave by a screaming lunatic. Then we get treated poorly? How out of control of a situation things turned out to be. She simply could have backed out and taken one of our spots, and let us go about our day.
This clinic should have been done on off hours so the sick kids didn’t infect the healthy ones!
Moving on…
Johnny was miserable. I cant remember the last time I had seen him this sick. He refused to eat, refused to move. He threw up, he cried.
He slept.
He took Tamiflu.
He is now feeling better only a few days later. He will probably be in school on Friday.
He is now immune to H1N1.
We didn’t take the shots. We had no interested in them.
So, all you moms who are so nervous about your child getting the swine flu understand not every case is a death sentence. Heck, its shorter then the regular flu.
Plus, I have no risks of problems from the vaccine years down the road.
They are stating that once you get it you are immune to ever getting it again.
Hopefully, he continues to get better.
However, the school told me several of his classmates are out sick as well. I wonder if it went through his class.
