I now know what delirious truly is…

I am so sad to be back home! Its so cold! So very cold. I woke up yesterday to white ground. Not snow but frost! It was 29 degrees and it was freezing!!! I think it may be colder since Fort Myers, FL was 94 degrees and sunny! How I miss the blue sky, sun, white sand beaches, and the palm trees! I love palm trees!

So the hubs and I got out of work around 1pm on Thursday. I had stayed up until 3am the night before making sure laundry was done and the bags for all of us were packed. Of course hubby went to bed at 8:30pm with the boys. I really wanted to strangle him for it! Of course my eyes already burned when we left knowing I had another couple of late nights ahead of me.

We both got home from work by 1:30 pm from work, dropped the boys stuff off, entered the highway ramp at 2:22pm on the dot! The first few hours were so exciting! Ok, so the entire first day was a blast. We drove through MA, CT, NY, NJ, DE, MD, DC, VA, and NC all by 3am. NY we went through NYC and went over the George Washington Bridge! NJ stole all our money as the tolls there were the highest! $9.05 just to drive through the state! Yikes! We were so happy even in NYC we hit NO traffic! We breezed by each state and the traffic stayed moving right along! Around 11pm we entered Virginia and finally hit traffic. We never actually thought VA or 11pm were going to be our traffic issues! But I found a good radio station and we cranked the tunes. He drove the entire trip and I was responsible for the tunes and making sure he stayed awake. Can you believe neither of us thought to grab a single CD for the ride? I don’t know what I was thinking!!! This meant a lot of station changing as sometimes the station didn’t last a song before it didn’t come in anymore.

Hubs made a comment something like “watch us get pulled over for something stupid or break down in VA” so I was determined at 1 am to sleep in NC! I wasn’t letting the bad omen happen! We drove and drove and drove and drove and couldn’t find the NC state line. Finally around 2:45am we didn’t have any juice left in either of us and we took the next exit and found a Holiday Inn. All the exits down south off of I-95 are truck stops with 5 hotels, 2 convenience stores, and a Waffle House. We checked in asked the lady what state we were in and she informed us we were in Wilson, NC. An hour away from the VA line. Lovely!

We got some zzz’s and 6 hours later we were back on the road! Showered and completely exhausted. We got subway for breakfast which I’ve never done, but its not bad!
We stopped at JR’s tobacco. Hubby really wanted to walk around the room sized humidor! In the end he didn’t grab a cigar knowing he’d never smoke the thing anyways.

We drove straight through for hours after that. The Carolina’s were flat, flat, flat. No change in scenery other then a dead deer in the middle of the highway (WTH?) in MA that’s called free food! It was so hard to get through. I’ve been told there actually are mountains in the Carolina’s and that its a rather beautiful area…but I didn’t see it. We really didn’t see anything in GA either. At least not on the eastern coast side. I found the first Palm Tree in SC. I’ve always wondered that for some odd reason LOL!

We stopped once to eat and then just a few pit stops for restrooms and drinks from then on out. We reached Fort Myers, FL at 12:30am Sat. We were so tired I really don’t know how we did it. We had to pull over an hour before we got there just to stand up and get fresh air we were so tired. Then drove with all the windows down the rest of the trip. Thank goodness for GPS or we never would have had the patience to find the address!
