Thought I’d just give you a little update. Gavin is doing a little better. I wrote the original post below around 7pm last night. I work a long day on Tuesday and so I if it goes right up at midnight it was written sometime before I went to bed the night before. Sadly due to my work schedule some posts just have to be scheduled.
Anyways, around 11pm The hubs and I heard Gavin mumbling on the baby monitor. Then he started yelling out for us. When we went in he was still alseep. He was breathing kinda heavy so we woke him up and took his temp. First shot 105.8 second shot 106.2. We put a call in to the Dr.
About 20 mins later we got a call back instructing us to bring him to the ER. So We gave him a dose of Tylenol and started grabbing stuff together. 15 minutes later we checked him again. 104.6. Tylenol was working but figured I could go to the ER and get some results or go to the Dr. in the AM have them check his ears and send us home. Either way it was financially going to cost us close to the same. So we were off.
They brought him right back, which was nice. I hate making my kids hang out with the drunk fools in the waiting room. They took his temp again and it was still the same. His o2 sat was low so they brought him right back into a room.
Since he was dehydrated at this point they had to get fluids in him. They also took a chest Xray because of his o2 sat. They also tested him for RSV and the Flu. Nothing came back so finally around 3:30 am they offered to either start a round of bloodwork or let me take him home. I took him home. He was tired, his eyes were bloodshot, and at the moment his fever was down too 101.
I called out of work today and spent the day home with my baby. He was a great cuddler today 🙂 Which always makes me happy!
Just thought I’d let most of you know that regardless if your child has a fever of 101 or 104 the Dr. will treat it the same. Its not until they reach about 108 that the fever can truly do any damage to your body. Before that you just need to keep an eye out for dehydration. Check for wet diapers or toilet use. I know a fever of 105 sounds scary, but surprisingly, its not as bad as one would think. But they are OUR babies so we worry. We’ll always worry. That’s why we’re moms <3>
