Opus and the Red Chair a Great Children’s Book with a Great Cause (ACF)

Opus and the Red Chair is a wonderful story about a dog named Opus who lived in the wonderful city of Boston. The book is told from the dog’s perspective and he lets you know all the wonderful reason’s he loves Boston. From the yummy pizza crusts, playing in the Boston Commons, to visiting his friend Ken down at the pet store for treats! At the end of it all he loves curling up in his red chair and looking out the window overlooking his street! There isn’t anything Opus doesn’t like about his home in Boston!
But then one day everything changes! He watches these men come in and take away all his family’s belongings and it makes him sad and confused, especially when he sees them take away his beloved red chair! Opus gets scared that his family is going to leave him there in that dark empty place. Suddenly he is taken to the airport by a taxi and boards a plane and he just doesn’t understand what’s going on there are no other dogs and he feels very alone. Finally, he is greeted by his family and they bring him to his new home where he finds his red chair and comfort in his new home in California!

This is such a wonderfully written story by Alice Howard Koesterich about the stress and anxiety involved with moving. Helping them explain that although you don’t always know what is going to happen it doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s a bad thing. She wrote this story in homage to her own dog, Opus, that was diagnosed with cancer and passed away only a year later in May of 2006. Through the death of her 5 year old dog it inspired her to write her very first children’s book. She teamed up with award winning illustrator Sara Kahn to make ‘Opus and the Red Chair’ for a great cause that benefits the Animal Cancer Foundation (ACF). All net profits from Opus and the Red Chair go directly to ACF to help develop and support research that can one day help treat and save not only animals but humans too! If you would like to help them with their cause you can make a donation by visiting the Animal Cancer Foundation.
