Fright Night Flight
What made you decide to write children’s books?
I’ve been an avid reader all my life and always wrote for fun and pleasure. I have an M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education and taught Head Start and kindergarten for a few years. When I moved to my present home of Washington, DC I switched to different work, but it involved writing. One night when my son Jon was seven and I was tucking him in at bedtime he asked me, “What was the first song ever sung?” The poem I wrote to answer him became my first picture book text. The book is called, THE FIRST SONG EVER SUNG and it was illustrated by Ed Young.Since then I’ve published many picture books illustrated by some extraordinary artists. This First Thanksgiving Day
Which of your books is your favorite and why?
I guess I have a special place in my heart for the original fairy tales I’ve written, such as THE RAINBABIES, LITTLE OH, and MOISHE’S MIRACLE, because I was so into fairy tales as a child. Then again, I’ve had a lot of fun and learned so much researching my non-fiction titles such as CAPITAL!, NEW YORK, NEW YORK! and my latest release, HEART OF TEXAS, A LONE STAR ABC. And I love writing lullaby books for my very youngest audience, such as my new title, MY LOVE WILL BE WITH YOU, which is a follow-on book to the best-sellingI LOVE YOU AS MUCH. I suppose it’s kind of the way I feel about my three kids – I love each book in its own way.The First Song Ever Sung

Is there an author that inspired you as a child?
My mom read me a lot of picture books when I was small of which my all-time favorite was MADELINE by Ludwig Bemelmans. Later on, I became enchanted (pun intended) with fairy tales and read as many colors of the Rainbow Fairy Books by Andrew Lang as I could find in the public library as well as the tales of Hans Christian Anderson. I loved other stories of magic, too, such as those by E. Nesbit like THE FIVE CHILDREN AND IT, which also qualified for another favorite category – As an only child, I was fascinated by stories about the adventures of large families such as THE FIVE LITTLE PEPPERS AND HOW THEY GREW by Margaret Sidney; ALL-OF-A-KIND FAMILY by Sydney Taylor; and THE MELENDYS and THE FOUR STORY MISTAKE by Elizabeth Enright.

Hurry! Hurry! Have You Heard?

Announcing the release of today’s NEW remarkable children’s books
by Laura Krauss Melmed:

MY LOVE WILL BE WITH YOU
Said the father monkey to his child,
“Someday you’ll climb to the tops of the trees.”
Said the father dolphin to his child,
“Someday you’ll swim off to faraway seas.”

In rhyming couplets, this companion book to the bestselling I LOVE YOU AS MUCH tells of enduring devotion from a father to a child. A tender lullaby that is sure to become a favorite at your house.

I love this book! It has a sweet calming flow through it which makes a great whenever book. I love how the story was told by different animals explaining how that father could best describe the length of his love. The story shows a father devotion to his child and makes sure the child knows regardless of what happens he will always be there for his child. This book would make a wonderful addition to any baby shower gift or new dad. Just make sure you get her ‘I Love You As Much…’ book to go with it!

This book is a great book for children of all ages. My eight year old son loved reading this book to his little brother. He thought it was fun to learn all the interesting facts this book offered and often would spit one out like he had known it all along. After he read though it a few times he even had fun trying to read it faster singing it with the great rhymes it has.
