I got hooked last year watching Teen Mom. I had actually forgotten that MTV even existed which is surprising since when I was younger it was one of the only channels I watched. I loved the series although Amber drove me absolutely nuts.
This season they have a whole new group of moms and they are calling it Teen Mom 2. I wish they didn’t just drop their old ones because that stinks. If you haven’t met the crew yet, you should.
Let’s start with Chelsea. Oh Chelsea. Why oh why would you take that loser back! I get your urge to try and make it work, really I do. You must see though that he is costing you everything. Get rid of him. It really IS the best thing you could do for yourself and your daughter.
I love watching Leah’s story. I’m so happy for her and that her relationship is working out. I feel so bad with all that is going on with Allie and it drives me nuts it is taking so long for them to get any answers. I can’t wait til their wedding but hasn’t anyone told her to check out David’s Bridal? $1000 for a wedding dress when you’re already struggling seems crazy!
Then there is Kailyn. Oh Kailyn. Every week my feeling shift for you. I really do feel for you. Many times you seem so stuck between a rock and a hard place. I don’t really know what is going on between you and your mom but seeing how easy it was for you to go home last week left me scratching my head wondering why you didn’t do it sooner. Joe is a jerk but I can totally see him and his parents not wanting you dating another dude while you live there. While we’re on the subject has no one told you about financial aid???? Why would you borrow $600 if you are a single mom NOT living at home. You should be going to school for free!
Finally we get to Jenelle. Jenelle is actually my favorite. I’m sure you think I’m nuts for that. Being a teen mom I know how easy it is to want to throw your hands in the air and want to give up. However, no one in my life let me do that so I learned to be the best mom I could be. Your mom sucks. She really does. I can’t believe she would back you in a corner and take your child. She seems like she wants Jase more then she wants you. I’m sorry for that. You need to grow up some so you can get him back. I just wish you had a better example of a mom and support to help you be that mom. I see you make an effort and then your mom just scream at you and instead of keeping it up you backfire and take three steps backwards. I believe in you.
Doesn’t MTV pay these mothers? It ticks me off that this show is one of their most popular series and yet these mothers struggle desperately for money. I get being a teen mom isn’t all it’s cracked up to be and the struggle is hard but MTV should be paying you something!

I agree with EVERYTHING you said! I wondered if maybe MTV does pay them but maybe they can’t have it until they are 18? maybe a trust situation? I cant’ stomach the thought of these girls NOT being compensated for exposing their lives in this way. Don’t you just want to give Jenelle a hug? Tell her she is going to be a great Mom…encourage her? HELP her? So sad.
We are so much on the same page. You know I think they do pay the mothers and maybe fathers too. I remember reading somewhere that they are paid at least $100,000. I feel really bad for Jenelle for too. Her mother yells so much at her. I can understand Joe’s parents having a problem with Kailyn dating someone else while living in their home. That makes the situation very awkward. I can see it from Kailyn’s point of view too. She wants to have a life separate from Joe. But she can not do that in his home. I am glad that her mom took her in. I do have a problem with his parents trying to force them to be together. Being forced to be together can not end well.
MTV does pay them, but not until they are finished shooting (from what I’ve read). Last year Amber made almost $300,000 between what MTV pays and the stories she did for rag magazines. Teen Mom is my guilty pleasure too! Each week I watch and think, oh no these girls can’t make any worse decisions, and then then do. I agree with your opinions on Kailyn; she is all over the board. Sometimes I think she has alot of growing up to do and maybe Issac would be better off with Jo for a while. I love Leah and I agree Chelsea is so blind about Adam – she needs a reality check. But, I have to disagree about Jenelle. She is a total stoner who has no interest in being a mom. She was recently arrested on drug charges. While her mom is kooky, I think she is at least stable. When you watch the show you can tell she is stoned half the time. I just think she isn’t ready for that kind of responsibility and we should be glad that poor Jace isn’t being dragged around with her and reefer-Kiefer all day. Looking forward to many more episodes, and hopefully updates on the moms from season one.
lol refer-Keifer. I agree she is a stoner. But I really think her mom should have showed her love growing up and she would be a whole different person. I think you learn how to be a good mom from being raised by a good mom, IMO.

Oh yes, they pay them a lot. Maybe they say they don’t want you living with loads of money, they want average kids?! Jenelle’s mom inspires me to be the best mom that I can. Poor Jenelle. Her mom, I hope Dr. Drew gives it to her big time! What a B! I feel bad for Kaylin, I don’t think anyone taught her anything. And Joe’s parents? They act very immature to me. I seriously want to punch Adam in the face! What a freaking loser! She better kick him out, get all she can out of him!! Take every cent he has for the next 18 years! Did anyone notice that all of these girl’s parents are divorced? Where’s Chelsea’s mom? Where’s Kailyn’s, Leah’s, and Jenelle’s fathers? I know Kailin’s dad was never around, I’ve never seen Leah’s dad or Chelsea’s mom, and Jenelle’s step father’s there but he treats her as crappy as the mom. That being said, Leah’s babies’ father (what’s his name?) he’s the best dad in all the seasons I think. That’s all my thoughts lol. I’ve never missed an episode of Teen Mom or 16 and Pregnant. They’re so addicting. Being a mother you feel for these girls, from sympathizing for them as mothers and thinking what would you do if these girls were my daughters…
I’ve actually seen Chelsea’s mom on the show a few times.
I love Teen Mom!!! Finally someone else who does! Right now though I’m like 5 episodes behind. I DVR it 😉 I totally agree about Chelsea. I couldn’t believe she took him back! He is such a loser and she could do so much better than him. But, I can totally understand wanting to do everything you can to make it work with the father of your child, even if it means not doing what is best for you, I’ve been there and done that!
Kailyn: She does sometimes make me mad but Jo isn’t good either. I totally thought the financial aid thing too. I don’t understand why she is paying for it and why didn’t the school tell her about it??? That makes me mad right there that the school should tell her about the financial aid instead of letting her struggle.
Leah: I like her. I didn’t like her on 16 and pregnant, but she is better now. Sometimes I think she comes off as fake, but that could just be me. I feel sorry for them for the problems with Allie. Does it seem like to you that they leave the twins alot? I know a couple episodes it seemed like everytime they were on screen the twins were staying with someone else.
Janelle: I can not stand her mom. She is almost as bad as Janelle, and it makes me sick how her mom seems to be the one putting Jace in the middle. All that yelling and screaming in front of that child gets on my nerves too. I wish Janelle would grow up and do the right thing. As much as I can stand her mom, I get so mad at Janelle for not staying home too. She needs to realize that she can’t be going out and partying every night even if Jace is in bed. That doesn’t matter, you don’t stop being a mother because your child goes to sleep.

I also want to add that I really miss the other girls. I really liked that cast. I was upset that they were changing the show, but I also don’t like change at all either sooo.

I hate the way Jenelle talks to her mother, but I guess she never set the best example right? I do have faith in Jenelle. Yes she may smoke pot, but she graduated and is in college, that’s worth something.

And they didn’t get rid of the first group, they will be back on Teen Mom in another season. They will both be running.
I LOVE Maci and Farrah really has proven to be great this past season as well. Catelynn and Tyler live about 20 minutes from me. I love watching them drive on the show and see places I’ve grown up around my whole life. Where she bought that ‘ugly’ (grr) prom dress, it was 4 miles from my home.
I was a teen mom as well. Had my daughter 3 weeks shy of my 17th birthday. I’m 20, engaged to her father, been living on our own together since she was born. Trying for #2 and doing fantastic! She’ll be 4 in May and I’ll be 21 in May. My how the time flies!
I love these shows, rewatch the reruns over and over again aswell. I agree with everything you said except for jenelle. that girl drives me nuts, the choices she makes are just stupid, i believe her mother is doing what she thinks is best, she just comes across harsh, but she is pretty frustated too.
I’ve read somewhere that every time a friend makes an appearance it’s like $25,000 or something like that. I think they make $250,000 for the entire season.
They do pay them but I’m pretty sure the money doesn’t come until after they finish filming! i.e. look at the difference between Caitlyn, Maci, Farrah and Amber from their first season on Teen Mom to the second season of Teen Mom. Both Amber, Maci and Farrah lived on their own with no jobs. Well Farrah had a job but I can’t imagine she was really making enough from working at the local pizza place for her own apartment!
I don’t feel bad for Jenelle at all. Did you ever notice that she NEVER says good bye to Jace? EVER? That’s weird to me! Sure she doesn’t have the best mother ever but that mother also stepped up and took care of Jace when Jenelle obviously couldn’t/wouldn’t!
I became addicted to this show. I loved last season with Caitlyn and Tyler, they were so mature with their decision and it just made me ball my eyes out, they they gave the child up for adoption, to a loving family that could take care of her. Carley’s adopted parents seem awesome..And I just LOVE Caitlyn and Tyler for doing this! But ya thats last season ..on to this season.
I dont know how to say it without sounding rude, and I am keeping in mind that they are teens, but a few of them need to realize that they are mothers now., Jenelle especially. I also agree with you, I do find myself rooting for Jenelle in a way but I just wishhhhh she would make better choices. I can see that she has it in her. I hope she does succeed.
I like Chelsea too! I get so mad that she is with that kid! I know years from now or hopefully sooner. she is going to look back at this and be like OMG what was I DOING!!! I think she is a really good mother, and I think she is mature, I just hate the relationship she is in,
I was actually just thinking about writing a post on this same thing! I have really enjoyed watching Teen Mom, and Teen Mom 2. Being a Teen Mom myself, I can generally relate to at least a couple of the girls. I pretty much agree with you each girl. It gets me kind of emotional watching the show though, on occasion. You’d think I would have moved past all the heartache since it’s been 14 years!
Too bad MTV didn’t have Teen Mom back in the 90’s! Lol
Since it is common knowledge that I live, eat and breathe Teen Mom, here’s my feelings as of this week. It changes with episodes… of course.
Leah and Corey= love of my Teen Mom 2 life. I love them like my original love, Tyler and Catelynn. I bawl everytime they have to deal with medical stuff with Ali, they are just so real as parents, real as young kids and just give me goosebumps of the Teen Mom Variety.
Jenelle: She is all kinds of messed up. Her mother is annoying as hell, and that’s just her voice. She has kind of washed her hands of Jenelle, and treats her like a lost cause, all while using her vocal chords to make my ears bleed. Of course Jenelle is going to “Paaaahty her ass offf” when the alternative is to hover her mom get on her every minute. Poor baby Jace. I love his curls and hopefully his mother or his grandma knock it off and take care of him. Reefer is as dirtbag as they come, dude needs some new shorts…oh and a job. And hopefully Jenelle loses those huge fake cubic zirconia earrings and hemp brass knuckle necklace. Those two items clash like a mother trainwrecker!
Kailyn: I had hopes for her. I think Jo is a mouthy trash bag and let him talk to me one time like that and I would really give his mumsies and daddy something to complain about. How can they get on Kail when their son is a verbally abusive piece of dog doo? My biggest concern as a mom would be that little baby Issac NOT grow up like his dad. I think she has too much on her plate, and really when does she see her baby? I would have moved out a long time ago. She should be able to get some form of assitance, and since the bank of Jo’s family has stipulations and is blinded by his actions, I would have moved on long ago. And Very Bradley is getting all kinds of advertising with her diaper bag, purse, etc.
Chelsea: Needs to lay off the spray tan and get rid of the bleached skunk stripe in her Snookie-esque hair. She is all kinds of dumb and wrong. I feel bad for Megan, who Chelsea sold out for that skinny waste of space Adam. It’s funny how she starts filming Teen Mom 2 and who comes slinking along… why smarmy snake Adam. With his ripped homemade tank tops and chevrolet tattoo. Daddy Warbucks should have put his foot down about Adam not living there. But Chelsea is allowed to be a princess. And her whine… oh my sweet 2 year old heavens~ I think I will send her to swiss boarding school… like yesterday.
Love me my teen moms! And uh can get we some Amber/Gary action? I miss my originals!

I only watched a few episodes of Teen Mom but I’ve totally been sucked into Teen Mom 2. I had some of the same questions you did so I actually went and found answers for them, LOL.
Kailyn’s mom was living in a motel with her boyfriend and didn’t have a job before which is why she ended up living with Jo and his family. Then, I also read that her mom’s boyfriend tried or did do something to her and she was trying to get a protective order against him. So I think it wasn’t a good situation for her to be in.
As for getting paid, they do get paid, pretty well actually but they don’t get the money until after the show is done filming. It wouldn’t be as interesting to watch if they weren’t struggling so they film them ‘as they are’ and then give them the money afterwards.
I can’t watch the show because I don’t like that fact that they are making it seem like being a teen mom is ok. I understand when stuff happens and having a baby at a young age but to me this show glamorizes being a teen mom and with young girls so impressionable as it is this show doesn’t help. Again, just my opinion and I don’t judge people who do watch this show. To each their own.
This is so funny I came across this post just after seeing the March 15th episode. That was a WOW episode. I just feel really bad for all of them. They all have problems and are WAY too young for all this responsibility. But Im happy for Leah. She has the support of her family and his and the baby will hopefully be ok.
I just love this show and hope they do a “where are they now” show. I wanna see all the old gals back on again! Love this post…. 🙂
I try to catch episodes of Teen Mom when I can. I think Jenelle doesn’t have the guidance she needs. I think she needs a foot up her arse, but her mom does too. I read in a tabloid somewhere that Leah has been partying and cheating behind Corey’s back. I know you can’t believe trash mags; I just hope it’s really not true. They seem so devoted to their kids. I’m a teenage mother statistic myself. I had my first child at the age of 17. I definitely don’t recommend it, but I don’t regret it.
I have never watched this. I know it shows their struggles, but in a way I still think it mtarts to make it more the norm, thus making it more acceptable. Just my opinion.
