So I discovered this fun Blog Hop over at Mama Dweeb all about dialect around the states and how we all talk differently. I had so much fun checking out others that participated that I had to jump in.
I apologize now that I am a mess. I have no make up on and the bags under my eyes show the fact I watched ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’ last night not knowing it was almost 3 hours long and started it at 1:30am and had to be up at 6. It also shows my psoriasis that is usually covered by makeup. My eyes are two different colors, yes, I know this lol.

I cracked up when you said “pock the caw in the Boston Hawbuh” LOL!! You sounded like Blondie from the boards. Loved it! But you DO say “Ont” instead of “Ant” so there is some boston-ness there 🙂
oh! And you said “New Orleens” and I just realized that i say “New Orlins” hmmm…..very interesting. I didn’t even know there was a different way to say it.
A-gain and I say “A-Gin” wow! There really is a different way of talking over on the east coast. I didn’t know you had an accent till I listened to this. I’ve watched your video reviews before and didn’t notice an accent. So it is there, but subtle.
You are right, I have never heard of cabbage night.

I was shocked that some people down south call carts buggies. I have never heard it called that in person though.

We sound very similar, there is just a couple of differences. I did it in my pj’s as well. Love the frame.
Some people call a roly poly a potato bug. they’re little gray bugs that look like they have armor on them and when you touch them they roll up sort of like an armadillo. As for the shoes, I think I go back and forth with tennis shoe and sneakers. In the moment, I can never remember which one I use. Same thing goes for the word “Route”. I think I could say it your way or the “soft” way. I have no clue what cabbage night is. Is it just a different way of saying Halloween? Do you design cabbage instead of pumpkins?
And I used my Droid to capture my video. It’s pretty crappy, but all I have. LOL Now it’s waiting to upload to YouTube and keeps saying it’s waiting for WiFi so who knows if I’ll even get it up. =)
LOL Your questions about cabbage night having my laughing. Not at you but no there is no cabbage involved. Egg and pumpkins. I’m going to have to post about this. lol

You’ve really never seen a sunshower? They usually happen around sunset around here and a rainbow pops around the same time if the sun is low enough.

I agree that the l is silent in salmon. Drives me nuts when I hear the l pronounced. Again and Aunt seemed the most different for me. Interesting term for toilet papering too. Loved this vlog 🙂

I found this to be not only very interesting, but also entertaining 🙂 Sorry I have no way of uploading a video 🙁 I don’t own a cell phone, video camera, and my digital camera went kaput not to long ago. It’s a shame because then you could hear my VERY HEAVY NY accent that I just can’t seem to shake. Went from living throughout NY growing up to PA for 7 yrs and now I am in NC and have been here for almost 4 yrs. People here always say “you’re from NY aren’t you?” … my response to them is “Nope .. I’m from Alabama” … and then they have this shocked look on their face and I laugh lolol.
Any who here is how I say my words (phonetically spelled of course)

Route = Root
Wash = Wash
Oil = Oy-ill
Theater = TheaDer (I pronounce the t more like a d)
Iron = I – Urn
Salmon = Sa-mon … I agree that the L is silent 🙂

It’s interesting to see how people say things or what name they give certain objects. Ever since I can remember I always thought up calling a chair a chair or a table a table … why not call a chair an apple or call a table a toe? I know it all goes back to Latin and beyond, but I am too lazy to really look into it ….. It’s nice to keep the curiosity going 🙂

You don’t have an accent at all. I was laughing at lollipop because we call them suckers here. I’m loving this VLOG so much fun.
I actually say most of the words the same way as you. That surprised me because I figured there would be a lot more. However, I live in Savannah, GA and grew up here but we visited my family in upstate NY all the time. My mom and dad were both from there. I didn’t really notice a difference in the way she talked except for a few words (pecan, California, etc). Although, my cousins would always have me repeat words because they said it was different (toilet, barret, balloon). I think me getting the mix of both makes it where I really don’t realize it as much but people can hear the difference from me. I don’t really have the slow southern sound like a lot of people picture people from here sounding but if you go out of town from here about an hour you can difinitely hear it. It is fun to hear the differences though!
