Who are you?
My name is Jane Garnett. I live in Oakville, just west of Toronto. I am married. We have two boys, a tank of fish and two hermit crabs that have lived way longer than they’re supposed to! My passions are creating anything and everything, especially jewelry, gardening, photography and cooking.

How long have you been selling on Etsy?
I first set up my Etsy shop in October 2007.

What made you decide to open up shop?
I’ve always been creative, dabbling in all kinds of crafts and arts and I’ve always loved wearing jewelry. A few years ago, I went to a beading class with a friend and I was hooked. At the time I was battling an illness and I found jewelry making very therapeutic. I made so many items that I gave to family and friends but then I found many people asking me to sell them pieces of jewelry that I had made. It just took off from there.

How did you decide on your shop name?
That was probably the easiest part of the business so far! I wanted to name it after a plant or tree that I loved. The Jacaranda tree was one of the first that came to mind. I grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa and our street was lined both sides with Jacaranda trees. When they were in bloom, it was just a glorious display of lobed mauve flowers and I’ve never forgotten it. I draw a lot of my inspiration for my jewelry from nature and hence the connection.

What is your favorite item in your shop and why?
I love everything I make – I guess that’s a good thing. Without a doubt though, my favorite item is the “Silver Love Knot Bracelet“. I have one that I wear all the time. It takes a long time to make but the end result looks gorgeous.

What are some of your favorite stores from other sellers on Etsy?
I have a few favorites that I’ve been looking at with some gifts in mind. They are “happyfamily.etsy.com”,”AbbaDabbaBags.etsy.com” and “clayswan.etsy.com” and many more. I buy many of my supplies for my business from Etsy shops.
