I always have an eye out for stocking stuffers for my kids. They both love movies and DVD’s are a great size to fit into their stockings. My kid’s favorite DVD’s are always the ones with stories about friendship and are exciting. Two great DVD’s that are perfect for their stockings this year are “Kate & Mim-Mim: A Christmas Wish,” and “Roald Dahl’s The BFG.” My 3-year-old Halli absolutely loves Kate & Mim-Mim. My 7-year-old Hayden just recently read the BFG and really enjoyed it.
“Kate & Mim-Mim: A Christmas Wish,” is a DVD with 3 stories and one called “A Christmas Wish” is an extended story. Kate & Mim-Mim are very best friends. Mim-Mim is Kate’s lovable purple stuffed toy rabbit who comes to life in the magical world of Mimiloo. Together they solve problems and help their other friends of Mimiloo. My little Halli also has a toy rabbit and often has her hair in pigtails like Kate. She will often pretend she and her bunny are just like Kate & Mim-Mim. She loved watching the extended holiday story of “A Christmas Wish.”
In the extended adventure “A Christmas Wish,” Kate and Mim-Mim with their friends in the fantasy world of Mimiloo use Tack’s letter launcher to send their Christmas wishes to Santa! When the letter launcher malfunctions, can Kate and Mim-Mim save Christmas?
In addition to this Christmas adventure, this DVD features two additional tales in which Kate and Mim-Mim go snow bowling, get stuck inside an ice cave, and try to find their friend Chilly in order to prevent the Winter Waterfalls from melting! These two stories are called “Snow Bowling” and “Chilly the Snowman.”
“Roald Dahl’s BFG” is a classic animated movie, which debuted in 1989. Since Hayden recently read “The BFG,” and did a book report on it I knew he would love this movie. Roald Dahl is such a wonderful author and it was fun watching Hayden enjoy a book I grew up with. BFG stands for “Big Friendly Giant.” The BFG meets an unlikely friend and together they solve a big problem.
This DVD includes the digitally restored version of this classic animated film along with two special features – a Never-before-seen Roald Dahl Documentary and Before/After Restoration Video. The documentary features an interview with Roald Dahl in which he talks about several of the well-known books he has written including “The BFG,” “The Witches,” and “Matilda.”
If you’re not familiar with “The BFG” book or this film, Sophie, an orphan, is snatched from her bed by an awesome giant who whisks her away on a magical, thrilling, and funny adventure. Unlike scary giants such as the Bloodbottler, the Fleshlumpeater, and the Bonecruncher, the BFG (Big Friendly Giant) is a good giant who blows sweet dreams into the bedroom windows of children as they slumber. When Sophie learns that a monstrous crew of meanies is off to England to gobble up innocent boys and girls, she sets out to stop them once and for all, with the help of her new, rather large friend.
Both Hayden and Halli have loved these two movies. The stories of friendship and love have been so fun to our holiday movie collection. If you are looking for some stocking stuffers “Kate & Mim-Mim: A Christmas Wish,” and “Roald Dahl’s BFG” would be the perfect addition to your holiday shopping list.
