I’m really excited for this new year. I can’t believe we’re a week in and this is my first post back. I’ve really enjoyed the time I’ve taken off to enjoy with my family. The past two weeks are probably the longest I’ve stepped away but it’s really been incredibly relaxing. We had a wonderful Christmas and hopefully I’ll be able to share it with you shortly. Since the holidays I’ve started some new things around here and I’m really excited about sharing them with you. Here are few things I have in store for Mom Spotted in 2014.
I’m sure you guessed that fitness & nutrition would be a huge part of 2014 and you guessed right! In 2013 I managed to lose THIRTY EIGHT POUNDS. Wow! That’s crazy to me. Somehow between Halloween and New Years I gained about 10 of it back. Of course the day I decided to face the scale I found out the battery was dead. I definitely need to hurry up and replace it but I’m still moving forward. I have a goal to lose 3o more pounds to hit my targeted weight of 140 this year so once I get a new battery I’ll be talking with you more about my plans to achieve that. For right now we’re working on smaller portions and healthy options again.
Speaking of food another thing I want to do is cut back on all the going out and ordering in. Not only is it expensive but it’s not healthy. I’d rather be making the food myself and knowing exactly what I’m putting into my body. I’ve been learning more effective ways to use my freezer and I can’t wait to share what I’ve been doing.
Another thing I’ve started is every day I’m going to do one non-regular cleaning task. Being a review blogger I can’t even begin to try and explain the amount of product that comes in my house. Problem? I never have anything going OUT. It may not look it from all the photos I share but there are areas of my home that could qualify me for the show Hoarders. It’s not good. It’s the only way I’ve been able to keep the other areas clean. I’ve had it though. I want my house back and I want the space more than I want the “stuff”.
Some of the tasks I’ve done so far aren’t that big and some don’t take very long at all. I’ve gone through my dresser, only a few drawers but I got rid of a lot of old under pieces, tights, swimsuits, etc that was damaged, no longer wearing, no longer liked, or no longer fit in. In the end that was a full small trash bag full of stuff.
I’ve cleaned out my baking cabinet. It’s a highly used cabinet in my home but it’s a mess and every time I go into it I have to juggle everything to pull out one cookie sheet. I also cleaned out my medicine cabinets and discarded anything expired and finished pulling out unwanted DVD’s out of our DVD cabinet. I boxed them all up and put them in my consignment area to tag when I have time another day.
Another thing I did was organize all the clothing I have waiting for Sawyer in larger sizes. I’ll be sharing some of my organizing ideas and tricks with you along the way.
Which areas in your life & home are you trying to work on this year?
I’m on a big organizing and getting rid of kick as well! It’s a great start to a new year 🙂
Congratulations on the weight loss! Keep it up! Isn’t the feeling of accomplishing cleaning tasks, no matter how small, great? I’ve been tackling our messy apartment and what has helped me is cleaning small areas at a time. That way I don’t feel overwhelmed by having to clean a whole entire room. Or I put a time limit on my cleaning. It can be anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour. Once the time is up I can either quit, or if I feel like I can keep going I keep going. I’m sure you’ve found that it’s amazing what you can get done in just twenty minutes. Stick with it!
I have the same goals as you do this year: lose weight and get organized. Congrats on the weight loss!
Good ideas for 2014! mine is to clean more consistently and do more cardio. healthier me and healthier home!
I’m looking for new workouts. My knee is shot and the doctor says I need to take it easy which has left me in tears. Right now I’m focusing on my belly but I need cardio and miss my high intensity stuff. For my home this year I want to work on my pantry which is actually an area before heading ot the basement. It needs completely redone with new shelving, paint, bins etc. I’m excited. Also, need to repaint a few rooms as the kids have managed to put so many scuff marks on teh walls/baseboards.
I wish you all the best in completing your goals for 2014. I also need to purge and am going to go at it full force wtihin the next couple weeks. It’s time to get some stuff out of my house.
sounds like you have set some good goals,,,I need to do better,,I need to sell some stuff on ebay an clear out clutter an make some money
