Aloha Friday Shoe Washing

If you’ve never heard of it, it started over on An Island Life.

I ask a question….I answer it….and then you answer it too!
Sound like fun?

So, for this week’s question:

Q: Do you wash your shoes?

A: I never wash or clean our shoes. Johnny however seems to be going through shoes faster then he should. Not because he is out growing them but because he is trashing them. In February Hubby & Johnny bought shoes together when we vacationed in Naples, FL and my husbands still look brand new while my sons are disgusting.

Do the shoes come out okay? Do they shrink up in the dryer? Is it bad for your washer and dryer?

Comments

  1. I don’t wash our shoes…often. That being said, I have done so. I wouldn’t do it weekly or even monthly but when my little guys get into mud or something, it’s necessary. And sometimes my sneakers just need it – they get grimy.

  2. I don’t wash our shoes. My husband uses a shoe cleaner for them.

  3. I do wash our shoes. I never dry them in the dryer, I either put them in front of a box fan or near a heater to dry. Tennis shoes, etc. do okay in the washer. I try to scrub them as needed , but when they get really bad I will throw them in. Canvas washes best, but rubber sneaker do okay… just don’t launder them too often.

  4. I use to, but it doesn’t seem like I’ve had to in a long time.

  5. Kari says

My husband has thrown his shoes in the washer but I’ve never washed mine.

  6. Dee says

Nope! I mean, I have in the past – but not regularly!

  7. my husband puts his in the washer but I do not I am not hard on my shoes and neither is my son if we buy stride rite shoes

  8. I always wash mine and Princess Nagger’s shoes – I have a front-loader which tends to be less ‘harsh’ with washing anything, and always wash on the delicate cycle. I never dry them in the dryer, though – I usually put them up in the upstairs bathroom window to get lots of warm sunshine for drying! 🙂

    “Roughing It”: Camping or Motel?

Some athletic shoes- yes. Others I clean by hand.

  10. no are you supposed to?

  11. From time to time I need to wash shoes for the kids (accidents/dog poop at the park). I wash them in gentle cycle and air dry. My mother told me to put a towel inside the shoe to keep the shaping and help absorb moisture.

  12. Jill A. Collins says

Yep, I love washing my sneakers. I’ve never had a problem doing it and they look and smell great afterward 🙂

  19. Christine M says

I wash shoes have since the 7th grade. We lived in Hawaii so I would hang them to dry now with my kiddos I wash and put them in the dryer or set them outside to dry in this hot Georgia weather =)

  20. Deborah says

Only when they’ve gotten too disgusting to wear and then I let them air dry.

  21. Lolo says

I use to wash my keds in Elementary school. Wanted to be nice and white like Baby’s from Dirty Dancing. lol

  22. won says

I don’t wash them because I’m afraid they’ll come out funky and not fit right. With a teenage son….I wish I could/did though:)

  23. Erica G says

I wash our shoes every once in a while. I always out them in a pillow case or laudry wash bag. I have never had a problem. I usually put them in the dry until they are almost dry, then let them air dry for the rest of the time.
