I remember when that first monthly moment happened. My parents were divorced and I was temporarily living with my Dad. I had no clue what to do or what I was going through. No one had talked to me about it and I was so embarrassed about what was happening to me. Of course once I was able to talk to my mom she took care of all my questions and physical needs but do you know that in other areas of the world girls don’t have the resources we do and can’t solve everything with a call to mom and a trip to the drugstore.

For millions of girls, sanitary protection is a luxury item. The lack of affordable sanitary protection can have devastating lifelong consequences for adolescent girls in developing countries. Since its inception in 2008, Huru® International has developed a cost-effective solution to this often-overlooked crisis. Through the production of Huru® Kits, the organization aims to provide girls with the resources and knowledge they need, including sanitary protection, to complete their education and safeguard their health.

Well, o.b. is doing what they can to answer the call and they need your help! Right now they are running a Facebook Mission to raise $25,000 for Huru® International, which translates into 1,000 Huru®  Kits (or 8,000 reusable sanitary pads), valued at $25 each. They need YOUR help though! o.b has agreed to donate $1 for every fan that shares the Huru® International’s mission on their wall!

*The o.b.® Brand will make a minimum donation of $10,000 to Huru® International, and an additional $1 per consumer who shares the message about Huru®, up to $25,000. Donation not valid for consumers living in Alabama, Maine, Massachusetts, and South Carolina. Limited to one share per consumer.

What is a Huru®  Kit?
-    Huru® Kits are provided to at-risk girls at no cost.  Each Huru® Kit comes packaged in a drawstring bag that doubles as a backpack, and includes:
o    Eight reusable sanitary pads
o    Three pairs of underwear
o    Detergent-grade soap to wash the sanitary pads
o    A re-sealable, waterproof bag to safely store used sanitary pads
o    Educational insert focused on proper Huru® pad care and usage, and
o    Life-saving HIV/AIDS prevention information

How do users participate in the o.b.® Share It Forward program?

Bagel Bites ‘Snack Simply’ Pledge Giveaway!

Sometimes lunch can be a battle around here in the summer. One kid wants one thing, the other kid wants something else, and well, I don’t want either of their choices. Making all three separate meals is torture for doing dishes and it this heat the last thing I want to do is stand over the sink.

Bagel Bites are always a choice we can all agree on and I can pop in the oven while we’re still hanging out outside. Right now Bagel Bites is asking Moms to make the ‘Snack Simply’ Pledge. You can read the full pledge here but it basically states that you, the awesome parent, will pledge to simple snacking this summer, and will do your part to help the Bagel Bites brand achieve its goal of donating $50,000 to the Boys & Girls Club of America to promote simple and wholesome nutrition in youth programs across America.

We were sent coupons so we could give them a try but in all honesty we’ve been eating bagel bites for years.Everyone in our family likes them and they are fast and easy and don’t pile up my sink with dishes. The only thing I’m not a big fan about it the packaging. I cook mine on a cookie sheet so I’m throwing away a lot.

I don’t spray my cookie sheet or anything. I know the tin foil is in the photo above but I was using it for something else at the time. See how good these are? Here’s an up close view of one so you can see all the yummy cheese pieces.

You can fit two packages on the average cookie sheet. Here is one package cheese and one pepperoni. Our two favorites!

After about 10 minutes of baking they are ready and they come out so yummy!

I mean look at how good this looks! Hungry? I’m sure now you are. You can find Bagel Bites in the freezer section at your local grocery store and are available in five different varieties!

FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT: P&G Field of Vision is on Saturday, June 11 on NBC!

I live in Western Ma and lately our very small area has been in the news for so many reasons. One of them caught major headlines when Phoebe Prince killed herself because the pressure from bullying in high school became too much. Sadly everyone from students, parents, and even school officials were aware of what was going on and no one did anything. Maybe if they had she would still be here. Maybe if some did something, anything, there wouldn’t be ten young lives ruined over this. It got so far and so much was done and so much that can’t be undone. It has divided our people and changed everything.

When my son started school this year all the children were asked to sign a Peace Builders Pledge. This pledge reminds the children that bullying will not be tolerated but it also stands not only against the people who are bullies, but also the kids that just stand by and do nothing. By signing the pledge the kids state they won’t tolerate any form of bullying. They won’t participate in it and they won’t stand by and watch it.

So when P&G told me about a great family movie called Field of Vision coming out that focuses not only on the bullying but how we as the watchers can stop this I was definitely on board.

Synopsis:

Through mysterious footage captured on an old malfunctioning video camera, Sinclair High School’s star quarterback, Tyler McFarland, learns that some of his teammates have been bullying Cory Walker, a troubled new transfer student. Aware that sharing this information with the coach might get his friends kicked off the team and ultimately cost the school the state championship, Tyler must choose what’s more important: winning or doing what’s right.

As these events unfold, the camera also reveals more surprising footage to Tyler’s kid sister Lucy. She learns that Cory has a secret past, unknown even to him. Now Lucy must convince her mom (Faith Ford, Murphy Brown) and family that the camera’s revealing insight is not a product of her imagination as she enlists their help to find the answers Cory so desperately needs. It’s a compelling and intriguing story that shows both the challenges and rewards of doing the right thing even when it’s tough to do.

This movie will make you laugh and make you cry. It touches your heart in so many different ways. I loved it and couldn’t tear myself away for even a moment. I highly recommend tuning in Saturday, June 11 on NBC at 8pm ET/7pm CT to watch it with your entire family. This is something children should definitely watch and especially grade school children who often see things like this and don’t know how to handle situations. For more information you can also check out the Field of Vision Facebook Page.

Aloha Old London Sweepstakes & Melba Toast Review!

Finding healthy snacks for my family always seems like a struggle. Fresh fruit and vegetables are always the best option but with the prices of things these days it’s not always possible to keep the fridge stocked year round with them. Most of the time I find my family digging through the pantry trying to find something to eat but sadly many of the options in there aren’t healthy options. Then I was sent a selection of Old London Melba Snacks from mom Central and I decided I was going to replace these snacks with the ones in there and see how things went.

To my surprise there were no complaints and no whining. The Spicy Cheddar Bagel Chips were by far the favorite. I really liked the Whole Grain Toast. I am a “snacker” by habit and usually many of the things I chose aren’t always the smartest options. I like things that are in serving sizes and pouches and the Melba Toast has packages with 5 toast pieces inside the box so you can grab them and eat properly. Plus, they make great on the go snacks!

Not only can you eat them just how they are but if you visit the Old London website you’ll find lots of recipes using the Melba Toast! They have lots of choices and they aren’t just snack foods like Atlantic Salmon Bites and Cheesy Quesadilla Dippers but there are even yummy dessert options like Apple “Pan Strudel” with Dried Cherry Puree and Chocolate Pistachio Crunch! So who says dessert has to leave you feeling guilty?

Plus, make sure to enter the Aloha Old London Contest!! You can find all the details out on the Old London Facebook page.

Old London will send one lucky winner and a guest on a once-in-a-lifetime vacation to Oahu, Hawaii. While soaking up the beautiful Hawaiian sunshine, experience everything this tropical paradise has to offer with surfing lessons, dinner for two at Tropics Bar & Grill, spa services at the Hawaiian Lomilomi Massage at Mandara Spa, private cooking lessons at the Chef Mavro restaurant and Two Alii Luau packages at the Polynesian Cultural Center with admission to “PCC, Alii Luau and Ha: Breath of Life” evening show. The four-day, three-night, all-expenses-paid experience also includes air travel and accommodations at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort & Spa.

Doesn’t this contest sound amazing? I would love to win this. I couldn’t even imagine enjoying all that pampering! To enter you’ll have to first like the Old London Facebook page, then click enter sweepstakes at the top bar on the contest page and enter your basic information. That’s it!

Don’t forget to pick up a box of bagel chips or Melba Toast from Old London on your next trip to the grocery store!
