Make Your Own Glittered Ornaments! DIY!

Last year I ended up with extra red garland from my tree that I didn’t need and didn’t want it to go to waste. I cut it in half and decided they were the perfect length to twirl around my curtain rods. My regular curtains in the living room are green colored so it made them look really festive. I thought adding red glittery ornaments would be the perfect touch but the problem was when Christmas was over I didn’t want glitter all over my curtains. We all know glitter ends up all.over.the.place but where was I going to find ornaments with the glitter on the inside?

Then came Pinterest in my life. Are you all realizing the common interest in my posts here? Pinterest! Seriously, if you aren’t using it you are missing out! I love it. There is so much I’ve done and learned from that site it’s not funny!

Anywho, I found a post that was about making your own and the glitter ended up inside. I thought perfect!!! Sadly like many of my favorite pins the pin didn’t bring me to the post, it brought me to the home page. So I googled and found another person who tried it.

They made it crystal clear you needed the BLUE CAP floor wax. What they failed to tell you was which one. There are more then one.

This is the one I used and it worked. I bought it at Walmart.

I started this project using gloves but quickly tossed them as they were more of a pain then a help. I found it was easiest to remove all the tops at once. I filled each one with some floor wax. I did this to them all at once.

I have a three pack of funnels. I bought them for about a buck at Walmart over the summer. I use them often. Invest in a set.

Shake floor wax and spin it so all areas are coated. Use one funnel to pour the floor wax back into the container. Use a separate funnel and add glitter. Shake. Make sure you cover all areas. Pour back into glitter with funnel.

If you don’t use a funnel you will end up with glitter everywhere. I used cheap Walmart glitter by the way. No need for the fancy, fine kind.

I did the glitter part one by one. The floor wax losses it’s magic quickly so you need to shake floor wax, pour out, add glitter, shake, pour out glitter. Repeat. Place back into the container and put aside. I’m sure they’d be dry in about an hour but I left them overnight.

I tried to be careful putting the top back on not to mess them up and quickly realized there is no easy way to do that so I just popped them all in and it was fine.

Don’t they look great?

They are fun, festive and won’t leave my regular curtains with any left over Christmas cheer. I did this several weeks ago and none of the glitter has fallen and they look as good as they did when I first did them.

Who knew- floor wax!

Hallmark Christmas Countdown $50 Giveaway!

Christmas is so healing for me. There is something about this time of year that makes me like a 4 year old child all over again. The lights on the houses, the exchanging of gifts, and the ornaments on the tree.

Of course the holiday season kick starts with my stalking the local Hallmark Store. I collect the singing plush every year and while my mom buys it for me as one of my gifts I still can’t wait to find out what it will be. I’m so glad this year they went back to the winter characters! This years ‘Deck the Halls‘ one is a cute snowman and dog combo!

This year I’m loving the new Interactive Storybooks & Story Buddies this year! We received Jingle and I knew Gavin would love him. Of course I was right! You simply push the button on his ear and when you read the book he totally interacts! There are certain sentences in the book that will trigger your Story Buddy. In our book the trigger sentences are always in red. After a few reads your child will start to want to learn to read them themselves so as I parent I am loving this! You do need to make sure that if your child learns the sentences that they speak clearly.

Another favorite in our family is taking out all the ornaments. Many of ours were made by the kids. The kids love remembering memories and such behind them. I use to collect the trains and such for my boys but sadly we lost them in the fire and I’ve since decided that if I can’t have them for all we can’t have them. We do miss them though as they were so special to the boys. Now we just go and pick out one ornament each. Looking back we can tell who and what they loved that year!

The new Countdown to Christmas Keepsake Ornament from Hallmark was a huge hit for my boys! Johnny set it himself and said he just put today’s date and time in and it counted back for him so that he didn’t have to figure the math behind it. We used a simple hook to hang it and of course the boys wanted it front and center so that they could always check it. Just by lightly taping the bottom an LED light makes it easier to read! As you can imagine the boys are tapping it daily.

Shutterfly Holiday Cards Review & Giveaway! THREE Winners!

I love Shutterfly. They are my #1 pick for online photo printing. They are also the first place I go to make my Christmas Cards. In fact last year I used Shutterfly to make two different holiday cards. See, I’ve used other companies and they seem great online. I’ve actually used them all but the real difference is when you make that purchase and your order comes in and you see the quality.

It’s all about the quality in my book and every single time I order from Shutterfly I get amazing quality! I’ve used them for more then just prints, cards, and calendars but I’ve also used them for mugs and I’ve LOVED every purchase. Every time that orange box gets shipped to my home I get excited!

See last year I thought I’d be on the ball and order my cards early so that the day after Thanks giving they would be signed, sealed, stamped, and ready for delivery. Problem was that that same weekend I got these great shots of my family in matching Christmas jammies for a review in front of our tree and I couldn’t resist the opportunity to share them. Of course hubby said it was just to get him. Yes, we did all get a chuckle.

So, I had to go ahead and order some more. I love the selection of the photo Christmas cards that Shutterfly carries but I’m partial to the folder versions. I had only paid attention to the design with the first order and accidentally purchased flat cards so this time I did folded one.

I ended up with some great cards and in the end the closer of our friends and family actually received two from us. This year I can’t wait to place my order for this years cards and you know I’m ordering from Shutterfly!Shutterfly has offered THREE Mom Spotted Readers 25 Holiday Cards!!!
