The St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park in Florida

Remember my recent trip to Daytona Beach, FL for my cosuin’s wedding? Well, we ended up with one day that we didn’t have anything scheduled. We went down to the hotel lobby and looked through 101 different pamphlets to try and decide. My Dad happened to call me while we were looking and said don’t bother with those. Take a drive about an hour north to St. Augustine and visit the The Alligator Farm Zoological Park that he really liked and was pretty sure the boys would too.

From the moment we walked through doors the kids were in awe. There were alligators everywhere. These gators weren’t far off and hard to see either. Sometimes the only thing separating you from these scary guys was a piece of plexiglass.

They even have this cool albino alligator as well as all different kinds of alligators!

The boys were super excited when we told them that they could hold a baby alligator! I was impressed that it only cost $5 to take a photo with my own camera! To me I’d rather have a photo with my camera any day over a formal print I can’t duplicate (or post online). Of course if the formal photo is more your style for a few dollars more you could have one of those too. The mouth of the alligator is taped shut so he can’t snap at the boys.

They have little shows all throughout the day and we had a chance to see several of them. One we really liked was their feeding. This guy goes into the den and walks right up to these alligators!!!Isn’t he crazy!

I mean, seriously??? Don’t you just want this approaching you?

I guess though if you want to dangle a big fat rat you’re asking for it. Check that mouth out!

Personally, if I had to go in there I’d be chillin’ near this dude. He looked relaxed while all this was going on and definitely had no interest in eating.

On top of all the cool alligators they have there they have this amazing bird rookery! The pictures can’t do this justice. The boys took off on me here because I was just mesmerized. I think I took 100 photos along the bridges alone.

The trees are just filled with all different species of birds. The alligators swim in the water below and I swear they are just waiting for one of them to fall out of the trees.

So many of the birds had little babies in their nests. I was so nervous watching this little one. There were about 5 alligators below and I thought for sure he was going to fall out. He kept sticking his head of the nest and getting just a little to close to the edge.

They also have a ton of little pit stops along the way to take photos. This big turtle is actually right next to a little playground which made for a good little rest stop. As usual I rarely got in the photos and this is one of the only pics of me from the entire vacation.

I definitely recommend visiting the St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park it was worth every penny. If you are all over the age of 10 and wear sneakers you can even zip line through the park along the tree tops. Johnny was very upset we couldn’t do this but we didn’t find it fair if Gavin couldn’t. We told him maybe when Gavin is older we can go back and visit next time we’re visiting my family.

Also, if you like them on Facebook you can buy your tickets ahead of time and even save $1 on each ticket!

York’s Wild Kingdom Zoo & Amusement Park {York Beach, Maine} Review

I told you all about my family vacation to Maine last week. I also mentioned a place called York’s Wild Kingdom & Amusement Park in York Beach, ME. Well I really wanted to take a moment to tell you much more about it! From either direction you enter (zoo side/park side) you’ll never believe how amazingly huge it is until you get inside.

My family has visited the Amusement Park side every year since Gavin was small. For $10 a child you really can’t find a better attraction that’s better priced. I live near an amusement park back home and $10 wouldn’t even buy you lunch!

Attractions:

  • Bear and monkey exhibits
  • Wings over Maine walk through Aviary
  • 90ft. Super Slide
  • Kiddie Bumper Boats
  • Skeeballs, state of the art Video Games and Batting Cages
  • Double Seat Go-Karts
  • Hundreds of exotic animals from around the world
  • Australia Collection
  • Petting Zoo for all ages
  • Educational learning sessions, featuring our Wildlife Theatre
  • Elephant shows
  • Paddle boats
  • Snack bars with traditional “midway treats”
  • Family Rides—includes Bumper Cars, Go-Karts, Ferris Wheel, A Merry-Go-Round, Electric Train—and much more!
  • THE HAUNTED HOUSE (only if you dare!)
  • Arcade games and games of skill offering chances to win quality prizes
  • Gift Shop with hundreds of souvenirs on display
  • The scenic sandy beach of York within walking distance with lovely shops and fine dining along the path.

As you can see for just $19.75 per person you’ll be able to enjoy all the things that both the park and zoo offer! It’s a great deal! It will be a day long event and I don’t know anywhere else you can entertain a family of four for less then $70.

Look at all the rides they have in the Amusement side alone!

Of course the first thing we had to do was the large slide. We did this slide over and over and over again. That’s the great thing about purchasing the bracelet price is that you can just get off and get right back on! I think we must have done this slide about ten times before the day was over. It was one of Gavin’s favorites! Plus, it is a great one for all family members to do together!

Another favorite of ours in The Haunted House. They did a great job with it but with smaller kids I do recommend that a parent at least walk through with them the first time. It gets incredibly dark and has loud noises that can startle you.

There are several different fun houses for the kids to go through. Personally these are always my favorite. Yes, I go on all of these with the boys over and over again. We had to go back and them again even after the zoo.

The kids like how they all have a part that comes out on the second level. They like to come out and wave down at whichever parent took a breather down below with the camera.

I know I look silly in the photo below but this fun house is a mirror house and you need to keep your hands up at all times or you’ll be walking into walls. Some are clear plexi glass, others are mirrors, and some let you through. Surprisingly, Gavin was the first one out.

Johnny even went on some of the more thrilling options. I use to love these types of rides when I was younger but for some reason can’t bring myself to do them now. I got dizzy just watching Johnny do the Super Spiral!

I love that The York Amusement Park has an entire row of rides just for little kids! Gavin had a field day going on all the different rides!

This ride was his favorite!

For some reason Gavin loved going around the kid sized ferris wheel but couldn’t wait to get off it. We actually had to pull him off early. The great thing I love about this place is that the workers are great about stopping a ride if your child isn’t into it and wants to get off in this section. They watch the ride the entire time and are aware of what is going on at all times!

One ride we all participated in several times were the fun bumper cars!

We even all took a turn on the carousal.

Of course Johnny couldn’t pass up the opportunity to play a few games and win a few prizes. These games are fun, but you will have to pay extra. The games are only a dollar or two so its still affordable if you limit it.

If it rains or you need a break in the shade stop into the arcade for a moment.

There is a great gift shop in the center of it all. Make sure to stop in and grab some great memorabilia ans souvenirs!

After we got a few rides out of the kids system we headed over to the Zoo side of the park. After all the years we have gone to the York Amusement Park we had never venhttp://www.yorkzoo.com/index.htmltured over to the Wild Kingdom Zoo. I don’t know why but we were definitely missing out! It is huge and has so many animals I have never seen before!
My favorite was the Butterly area! They were everywhere!

You can’t tell from the photo but this butterfly was as big -if not bigger- then my fist!

The boys really enjoyed feeding all the goats! They even struggled to fight the big ones to be able to feed the baby ones!

There were so many different kinds of monkeys it was crazy!

They even had Tigers, Lions, and Bears! Oh my!

The zebras were busy eating so they didn’t come over to see us. They are such beautiful animals!

The paddle boat rides are included and they looked like fun! Everyone must wear a life jacket regardless of the age. The hubby didn’t want to wear one and didn’t want to wait for us so we sadly skipped this.

You could even do elephant and pony rides! But that was an additional charge.

Hubs and Johnny always go on the Go Karts before we leave. It’s a reward for Johnny to stay on best behavior throughout the day. It’s $10 for four rides so they get to do them twice since Gavin and I sit out and hit up the lane of smaller kid rides one more time!

I highly recommend going to the York’s Wild Kingdom Zoo & Amusement Park in Your Beach, ME if you are in the area. It will bring you a day of fun, photos, and great memories! I know we have never been let down when we visit and we’ll continue to visit every summer!

My Weekend In Maine

I barely unpacked the suitcases and it was time to pack them again. Okay, seriously who am I kidding? I dumped out the stuff from NYC and started repacking.

We left early Friday afternoon but if you live in New England you know how fun the traffic is when you head to hot vacation areas near the shore line. We left at 1:30 and got there at 5:30. Traffic was horrible.
When we arrived we hung out with John’s grandparents who stay up there 6 months out of the year. We visit every August and often look forward to it!

Once bedtime rolls around Hubby & I take full advantage of the fact that we have babysitters.
We went and visited Kennebunkport and grabbed ice cream.

Saturday we had the entire day to hang out. I took Gavin to the playground while Johnny shred sledded around the courtyard with some other tweens. Afterwards Daddy took then to the pool that was freezing and I was smart enough to stay out of.
We visited Nubble Light House. I had planned on grabbing a family photo to replace our old one but Gavin had passed out in the back seat at this point and refused to wake up.
Then we were off to the York Wild Kingdom Zoo & Fun Park. I’ll be telling you more about that visit later this week.
We rode all the rides…
and feed all the animals!
When we were done we grabbed some pizza near by and headed home. But before we left I had to get my mother some taffy from The Goldenrod! I have never seen a place like them. They make the taffy right there in front of all the windows. My boys love standing outside just watching it get made and packaged. The photos aren’t easy to get with your reflection coming back so I grabbed these from behind the counter.
Isn’t that cool?
Its one of my favorite candy store. The boys have fun picking penny candy (gummies) from the back. They also have great fudge!
That night when the boys went down Hubby & I snuch out and hung out downtown Ogunquit, ME. We had fun just walking through the shops and when they closed we weren’t ready to head home so we walked down to the beach and slid off our shoes and walked out to let the waves hit us.

The next day we hung out did the pool and playground again and then headed off to Kittery. They have some amazing outlet shopping and every year I hit up the Children’s Place there for a lot of the boys back to school shopping. I don’t really find any deals there, but my store back home is really tiny and often out of the sizes I need.

We then hot the roads around 3pm and headed home. The traffic again awful. I wish I had thought to take a photo sooner before we took a turn but as you can see its stop and go on both sides!

I’m so glad to be home even though I’ve been having so much fun traveling this weekend. I know I’m behind in a lot of things but I’m doing what I can to catch back up. Please bear with me. Now if we can actually get some use out of that boat we own…we’ve only seen it ONCE this summer! At least this time I unpacked within an hour of being home!

Spending The Day In Boston With The Kids! #77kids Do Good Day

Yesterday was ‘Do Good Day‘ brought to you by 77kids by American Eagle and The Motherhood. A group of bloggers including myself were to do something to bring a smile to others. Johnny was dreading it. We had to get up at the crack of dawn since we live on the opposite side of the state and it was technically a sleep in day for him. The second he saw the skyline of the city his eyes immediately lit up. Of course this was the moment that complete fear hit my veins as I started driving in underground tunnels at highway speeds with twists, turns, and exits…all with my GPS satellites down.
My team handed out $1 bills and silly bands. Johnny turned out to be the team MVP as he made sure no child got passed us without a smile on their face. We were located in front of the aquarium which was a great location. Kids were everywhere! Can you believe that we had lots of people tell us no thanks? I never realized it would be hard to give away money and wrapped silly bands! The Group of Us:

The boys & I decided to stay since it was still early when we finished and considering the only place to park was outrageously expensive I wasn’t leaving after 2 hours. Seriously? $35 for 2 hours!!
We decided to visit the Boston Aquarium. I have to sadly admit that after just visiting the Mystic Aquarium in CT last week we were incredibly disappointed. The large tank is absolutely fascinating but there really was not anything else to do. It was ridiculously crowded. It was a Wednesday morning you wouldn’t think it would be crazy busy but we couldn’t even get close to some of the side exhibits. The amount of camp kids were insane. I would not pay the admission to experience that. I’d rather take a trolley tour around the city :( Especially when you factor in you’ll have to pay $35 to park your car on top of that! It was shoulder to shoulder and the first time in years my 9 year old son willingly held my hand in public for fear of losing me.

We did love seeing this 500+ lb turtle.

The aquarium was located right outside the harbor. My kids absolutely love the water. Had we packed lunches for the day this definitely would have been a great spot for us to eat. We definitely spent some time watching the boats. You can also see the planes land across the water.
I was using the zoom on my camera to see the boats in the harbor and saw this. I don’t know about you but I’d have a hard time going out in the ocean in a boat like this. Not only could you easily fall out the back with not a life jacket in sight…but the fact that your on a pop-able (?word) boat I highly doubt I’d be lighting a cigarette on it.
The kids were really hungry and I had remembered from a previous visit that Faneuil Hall would be a great spot to bring the kids. You would never know from looking at this building that Quincy Market was the best ‘food court’ ever. You’ll find everything from pizza, burgers, and ice cream to oyster bars, pubs, and more! Make sure to hold your kids close – it gets busy in there! However, its a great place to eat without breaking the wallet!I
We hung out and went through some shops and the kids loved it. I brought them by the Cheers Bar to show them. Of course their response was “Cheers?”
I had a review that had just arrived for Build A Bear so it was perfect that there was one right there!
The boys went in and had fun making their new Ice Cream Collection Bears!
Gavin picked the Orange Sherbet Bear and Johnny The Chocolate Mint. They are adorable!
Stay tuned for an upcoming gift card giveaway!
The boys found this big piece of mac & cheese hilarious!
I have to be honest I was at first overwhelmed with the idea of bring two kids into the city all by myself with no real plan. Everything was so close in location that they day went smoothly. There was also a large carousel that we meant to go back to but Gavin was getting really tired as we had skipped nap. I’ll definitely be bringing the boys back!

ps. I didn’t link the pics so you can click them and see them bigger is you wanted :)
