Your Baby Can Read – DVD Starter Kit – Review & Giveaway! {Ended}

I remember laying in bed one night unable to sleep and seeing an infomercial on TV about this program that teach children how to read and I was immediately interested. Gavin has been quick to learn since he could and his preschool program thought already that he has the ability to learn to read early if just given the time.
We were sent the Your Baby Can Read Starter Kit for review which consists of the Parents Guide, Learn to Read Word Cards, Starter DVD, Early Learning Workshop DVD, and the Starter Book. I haven’t been able to completely dip into the entire program just yet but I have been working with Gavin and I have already started seeing the program work.

A baby’s brain thrives on stimulation and develops at a phenomenal pace…nearly 90% during the first five years of life! The best and easiest time to learn a language is during the infant and toddler years, when the brain is creating thousands of synapses every second – allowing a child to learn both the written word and spoken word simultaneously, and with much more ease.

Dr. Titzer says the current practice of starting to teach reading skills in school is too late and children benefit greatly from getting a much earlier start since a child basically has only one natural window for learning language — from about birth to about age four. During this period it is easier for a child to learn any type of language including spoken, receptive, foreign and written language. The earlier the child is taught to read the better they will read and the more likely they will enjoy it.

Studies prove that the earlier a child learns to read, the better they perform in school and later in life. Early readers have more self-esteem and are more likely to stay in school. Meanwhile, a national panel of reading specialists and educators determined that most of the nation’s reading problems could be eliminated if children began reading earlier.

I personally think this is a great program and even though we haven’t been working with as often as we should i have definitely seen progress from Gavin that shows it does work. You start of by watching the DVD which works with repetition. You then follow up with the book which just so happens to be Gavin FAVORITE book. He has always had a fascination with letters and learning to put them together has been very interesting for him. I personally love how they don’t stick words together that relate so they don’t memorize it and learn it instead. For example below in the picture they have an elephant and mouth on the same page. I can’t wait to continue with the program and see just how successful it can be. For as far as we’ve come with it – it definitely is working and I am very impressed!
