TemporalScanner Thermometer by Exergen : Fast, Easy, Accurate Temperatures! Review and Giveaway!

As most of you know who have read some of my past postings know that I worked in the City ER before I had Gavin. I remember the day they walked in these new thermometers by Exergen Corporation and sat us down to watch a video on them. I remember thinking this was the craziest thermometer! It was called the Temporal Scanner Thermometer by Exergen. How would it ever be able to take an accurate temperature on anyone with just a slide from temple to temple and then a pop behind the ear?!?!

Then we actually got to use them and what a blessing it was to have. No more fighting with the old lady who didn’t want me sticking anything near her or having to stand around the crazy man for 3 minutes. I didn’t even have to wake the sick baby who had just spent the last three hours screaming but finally fell asleep on Mom’s shoulder as she tried her best to comfort him.

Being that annoying person that came around every 2-3 hours disappeared. Of course then I had plenty of other reasons to still bother them but at least this was no longer one of them. Plus, being able to cut 2-3 minutes out of every patient sure helped a lot too!

So, when I found out that the same makers of that same thermometers I used in my ER was available to me as a mom I was all about getting one! No more will I need to wake my sick baby in the middle of the night if its not necessary. No more will I be stumbling around trying to get an accurate temperature because 3x in a row I got completely different results.

Are you in need of a quick easy accurate thermometer?
Do you have small children or sick elderly that you take care of?
Do you just want something simple to use that doesn’t encourage the passage of germs
(you know we have all found our 8 year olds taking their temps trying to stay home from school and then instead of cleaning it just threw in back where it goes)
You can purchase this great thermometer directly online at:

Walgreens
Walmart
Babies R US
Baby Center
Costco

it is a fact that my child will like not having to pull up her shirt for the armpit temp, I usually take. When a child is sick and cranky…..most temp choices bother them. I like that this shouldn’t.

I learned how it actually works! As you gently stroke the thermometer across the forehead crossing over the temporal artery, the sensor in its probe performs two processes:
    First it scans like a video camera, capturing naturally emitted infrared heat from the arterial blood supply at about 1000 “frames” per second, locking in the highest temperature it senses and;
Second, at the same time, a patented system measures the ambient temperature of the site where the temperature is being taken. The patented “arterial heat balance” (AHB) software then synthesizes the two separate readings to accurately determine and display body temperature.

They take a reading one thousand times per second, while you are moving the sensor across the forehead, and they are able to recognize when they see the temperature readings looking like the “mountain side going up”, the “peak” temperature as they cross directly over the temporal artery, and the “mountain side going down” as the sensor moves away from the artery — so upon recognizing that characteristic profile, they focus in on the “peak” temperature directly. Isn’t technology only too logical??

It then can calculate any heat loss (in a normal or cold room) or gain (in a hot room), and instantly computes an accurate body temperature.

You can’t really get an accurate temperature from the ear because its almost impossible to hit the same place twice when you’re putting it in the ear. This can lead to missing dangerous fevers.

A major reason ear thermometers are considered inaccurate by medical professionals is because the positioning of the probe in the ear canal is inconsistent, thus creating inconsistent readings and frequently missing fevers.

I learned that the Temporal Artery is more accurate than the inner ear, mouth or underarm, with just a light touch.

  481. happishopr says

Wow! It works using two processes for more accuracy. As you gently stroke the thermometer across the forehead crossing over the temporal artery, the sensor in its probe performs two processes:
First it scans like a video camera, capturing naturally emitted infrared heat from the arterial blood supply at about 1000 “frames” per second, locking in the highest temperature it senses and; Second, at the same time, a patented system measures the ambient temperature of the site where the temperature is being taken. The patented “arterial heat balance” (AHB) software then synthesizes the two separate readings to accurately determine and display body temperature.
