BY THE BOOK: Caring For MY Kids by Melissa Bishop and Karen Berg

Are you a new mom? A mom that’s going back to work? Going out of town?
Are you trying to find a way to document everything you can about your children so that they can be cared for in the best possible way? Then you really need to check out this book that you can fill out called BY THE BOOK: CARING FOR MY KIDS by Melissa Bishop and Karen Berg.
It doesn’t just cover the basics of pediatrician and favorite foods, it covers things you didn’t even think of yet make so much sense once you realize it’s in this book! Here’s a sneak peek of some of the sections in the book:

Household Odds & Ends:
Do you have parental controls on your TV? I know we do. I also know that we have it set to be more sensitive than it needs to and my 8 year old often wants to see shows like ‘The Incredibles’ that because of fighting are blocked. Your nanny would need to know the code.

Do you have a house alarm? Alarm Instructions are important if your nanny is bringing your child to the park and needs to leave your home or if it suddenly goes off. Sure, you’d want them to call you if it went off accidentally but would you want your 3 month old being subjected to the loud siren for 15 minutes while your boss has to track you down and pull you out of a meeting?

Finding Emergency Equipment:
This sounds odd when you first stumble upon it. However in the event of an emergency you’d want your nanny to be able to find a flashlight as soon as possible if the electricity went out or the number to the gas company of they smelled gas and you were unreachable!

These are just some of the things you find in this extensive book that covers it all. It has everything you can think of that you would need especially if you are hiring someone to privately come into your home

Here are just some the forms:

  • Sitter Notes & Nanny News
  • Authorization to Treat a Minor
  • Child Identification
  • Illness Notes and Immunizations

Still looking for a Nanny or Babysitter to watch your children? They even have that covered too!
They have paperwork to help you find the best suited person with the best credentials! They offer great paperwork that covers: applications, interviews, agreements, and tips on what to ask and who to look for!

My review: In November my husband and I had to leave MA to go to a destination wedding in FL. My hubby was in the wedding and the children themselves were not invited. We were left with no choice but to go and leave them with family for five days. I was hysterical. I had never left my children longer then overnight. ever. I wasn’t just worried about what could happen while I was gone but what could happen if we didn’t come back! I know it’s a horrible thought but getting on a plane made me very anxious. So anxious that I actually had to medicate myself. I did the best I could to leave appropriate information for any situation. After going through this book, that I myself filled out, I see so many spots I left unanswered.

Even if you aren’t that parent that feels the need to have every “i” dotted and every “t” crossed this book is a great documentation of your kids by tracking their everyday accomplishments and favorite things.

Oh my goodness…I’ve tried on different occassions to write everything out (I’m fairly ridiculous and particular) and it was a giant FAIL each time…. between BlogHer this summer and then having the new baby in October… this would be a perfect way to organize my many, many random thoughts about the kids.

My youngest has food allergies and having it all in one place would be extremely helpful as well!

    Great giveaway!
